When the control handle is released, the control cable stops the blade. If the cable breaks, the brake will not release even after pressing the lever. To remove the old cable, cut off any cable ties, remove the cable end from the control bail, and remove the control cable from the engine (you may need pliers). Remove the cables from the openings on the handle, which can be twisted off by rotating the cable at a 90-degree angle.

The right side of the mowing deck was dragging the ground.
I identified the area and compared it to the opposite side which still had the cotter pin and place. The cotter pin on the right side had been lost in the mowing process. I used pliers to attach the new pin and all is well! Super glad to find a website that carries all parts for my dad's mower. He has dementia and can't remember where the manual is so I was glad to find fix.com. Read more...

Blade became warped over time, baffle was falling down
In order to change the blade in a push mower you need to use a 2x4 or equivalent to stop the blade from spinning. I bent the blade back previously by heating it up but I think it was causing too much vibration so I got a new blade after hitting stumps over the years. I run some things into the ground. The spark plug is amazing and really high quality. Its a simple change. The drive belt is also a simple change, any 6 in 1 if you remove the screw heads will have the right nut sizes for most mower parts. Always lube up the belt "like two drops" with a little belt oil and it will last longer. I use diesel oil, 3 n 1, or chain saw bar lube oil. The tensioner for the belt is an easy adjustment. This model is also prone to fuel lines being blocked. Just detach the fuel line, blow it out with your mouth, and reattach. Have had it happen twice in 10 years, some people would be pulling spark plugs, diagnosing the engine, etc, its pretty easy, just put some fuel on the carb to see if your getting fuel blockage. Trimmer Carburetor
$49.52

Fix Number
FIX9119300
Manufacturer Part Number
753-06190
A carburetor basically consists of an open pipe through which the air passes into the inlet manifold of the engine. The pipe is in the form of a Venturi: it narrows in section and then widens again, causing the airflow to increase in speed in the narrowest part. Below the Venturi is a butterfly valve called the throttle valve ' a rotating disc that can be turned end-on to the airflow, so as to hardly restrict the flow at all, or can be rotated so that it (almost) completely blocks the flow of air. This valve controls the flow of air through the carburetor throat and thus the quantity of air/fuel mixture the system will deliver, thereby regulating engine power and speed. The throttle is connected, usually through a cable or a mechanical linkage of rods and joints. Fuel is introduced into the air stream through small holes at the narrowest part of the Venturi and at other places where pressure will be lowered when not running on full throttle.
