Poor Directions
Use of black/white pictures made it hard to see part details. Use grayscale insted. Also provide a schematic of the parts involved. The similarity of names made it hard to determine which part was being referred to. used magnifying glass and a lot of trial and error to resolve instalation problems. Second set of rollers went smoother.

The shaft to the roller wheels to the upper basket had failed causing a wheel to fall off
. This is the second time we have had this defect with this machine. Apparently due to the frequent failures KitchenAid have redesigned the whole adjuster assembly using a mix of materials rather than all plastic. I was therefore supplied two complete assemblies, for which both existing assemblies had first to be removed. The installation instructions supplied with these replacements were not clear, although the text was intelligible. The photographs of the required work as "figures" were however almost unintelligible. The first side took a long time to complete with much trial and error. Once complete this followed as a model for the second side that went much quicker. Most important to watch for the side of the sliders to be outwards since the illustration is wrong. A similar situation exists with the adjustment button and assembly which can be installed in any of four ways, although only one will work. Finally an "errata" insert indicated that a special tool was included in the hardware set for installing the two screws using a Phillips screwdriver; this was not included in my set, although fortunately I had a socket set with this tool included.

upper rack roller mechanism failed (wheels broke off)
Replaced adjustor mechanisms on both sides. Instructions enclosed with the parts kit were pretty much useless - photographs were dark and blurry and not very helpful. Removing the old parts was the most difficult part of the job, and all that the instructions said about that was "remove old parts". I found an excellent video on YouTube by a gentlemen named "Matt" which saved the day; couldn't have done the job without the video.

The front roller on the right side of the upper rack broke off causing the the rack to tilt down off the track.
The instructions that came with the parts do not tell you how to remove the old adjusters from the rack. I found a video on YouTube ( Appliance Video.com) that takes you step by step on how to remove the old parts and how to install the new ones. The video made the repair easy.

Wheels snapped off of original plastic rack adjusters
Removed the old broken pieces, and installed the new awesome Stainless steel replacements as directed in the supplied instructions . Inserted the 4 supplied screws and gently tightened them. New parts have been redesigned and are MUCH sturdier than the old plastic parts. Some simple assembly is required.

Rollers had broken off
Followed directions supplied with part. Direction pictures were dark and hard to see details. Hex adaptor for screwdriver was too hard to use because made of plastic. Used my own hex wrench, which gave more leverage to drive screws into plastic pieces.

Wheel on roll out basket broken off
Remove old adjusters, just break them off if necessary since they will be replaced. Then followed the instructions that came with the new kit. They were very good. Took my time on the first side, reading each step in instruction sheet. Second side went much faster, almost didn't need the instruction sheer.

The plastic piece that connect the wheels was broken.
It was a little scary pulling the parts apart from each other. I found that placing a screwdriver through the center and pulling the plastic apart. As you do this try and push the other plastic wider with your hands and they will pop apart. Putting them back is a easy .Good Luck

Replace broken rack adjuster with new part
1-25-13
Refer to the parts diagram for the “upper rack and track”.
• As the previous post says, there are 5 clips that hold part #2 in place.
• The first two clips are the obvious bar holders at each end of part #2: on the diagram these are called #11 and #12. My part #2 was held in place by one #11 and one #12, rather than two of each as implied by the diagram.
• The third clip is located in the middle of part #2 and it is labeled part #9 in the diagram; the diagram has it facing the wrong way. Part #9 has three, closely spaced, compression tabs that point outwards from the rack [rather than inwards as shown in the diagram]. It is very difficult to depress all 3 tabs simultaneously in order to release the clip. I took this clip out as the third in the sequence; it may come out more easily if it is taken out last in the sequence.
• The fourth and fifth clips are “pins” at the bottom of part #8: part #10 fits over these pins and must be pried outwards to free the pins; once free, part #10 rotates upwards on the top bar like a clamshell.
• Note: after a few years of hot water & detergent the plastic is quite brittle. When forcing out parts it is possible/likely to break a part. The trick is to break only the old part which is being thrown away anyway!!
• In putting the pieces back together, the previous poster gave good advice to use the other side as a model. First clamp the new piece in place using part #9, and then put together the “clamshell” of parts #8 and #10. Finally, replace the clips labeled as part #11 and part #12.

The wheels on the upper shelve broke off [both sides]
The repair was easy once I reviewed previous customer reviews. The brakes easily pop out and snap in, with only the use of a screw driver. I did however, wish that directions has come with the product. Otherwise, a simple and cost effective repair.

Right side of the top rack fell off - the wheel broken
Instructions to replace the rack adjuster as follows:

(1) Slide the top tray out of the dish washer by turning the blue clips/stop (right side toward the right and left side toward the left) and place the top tray on a working surface.
(2) slide the part #12 (positioner) and #11 (adjuster clip) upward until it come out of the defect side of rack adjuster and push #9 (clip) out (from the outside) of the top rack. Keep all three parts, you will need them to put the new rack adjuster back.
(3) take the cover out of the housing (the box part you can adjust the height of the top rack, part #8 and 10 in the drawing)) by using a flat head screw driver to open the cover (there are two stubs on the bottom of the cover that you will need to pop it open).
(4) take the defect rack adjuster out and place the new one in.
(5) put the cover back to the housing and make sure when you press the blue handle down the rack adjuster can slide up and down.
(6) put $12, #11, #9 back , slide the top tray back to the dish washer, and close the blue clip/stop on both side.
