This switch will interrupt the current that flows to the motor when the ram reaches the top of the compactor. When the ram reaches the top of the compactor this switch reverses the motor direction. You may have a problem with your switch if you compactor wont stop running at the end of the cycle. Before you replace this part make sure you have unplugged your trash compactor.

This is a genuine Whirlpool replacement part. This switch assembly allows you to control your trash compactor. It has three buttons, one for each of the function it preforms. One button allows you to turn the trash compactor on, another to start compacting, and another to shut the machine off. This replacement switch is black. When you are removing the old switch pay attention to the wire placement to ensure you are attaching the wires to the new switch correctly. You will need a screwdriver to successfully complete this repair.
