The belt wraps completely around the drum, around a tension pulley, and then around the drive motor pulley. As the motor spins it pulls the belt which in turns causes the drum to rotate. If the dryer is making a screeching noise while running, gives off a burning smell, or you can hear the motor running but the drum is not tumbling, it is likely time to replace the belt. If the belt is snapped or has been stretched out it will not be able to grip to the drum to spin it. Replacing the drum requires use of a putty knife and nut driver. This is a genuine OEM part that measures 93-3/8 inches in length and 3/8 of an inch wide. It is made of durable black rubber, is flat on one side with has five ridges on the other. The ridged side is what lays against the drum to provide the grip for tumbling. Please remember to disconnect your power supply to the appliance before beginning your repair.
