8 inch surface element melted at elbow to terminal block - shot out a 6 inch flame.
Note: This is the first time I've ever tried fixing a stove. First, I ordered a new element. Took a minute to install, but it didn't solve the problem. I ordered a terminal block kit and switch kit. Replaced the terminal block. Took about 10 minutes. Only problem was the shrink sleeves melted. Electrician's tape remedied the problem. Tested the element again. It still didn't work. Following instructions provided, replaced the old switch with the new universal switch. First unplugged stove. Removed upper back panel. Took a closeup photo of switch connections, in case I messed up. Removed old switch, leaving all wires connected. Per instructions, mounted new switch and fitted dial to proper length - took about two minutes. Permanently mounted new switch. New switch wire terminals were not in the same location as on the old switch. No matter, both old and new switch terminal designations are clearly marked. Transferred wires from old terminals, one at a time, and connected to corresponding terminal on new switch. Plugged in stove. Turned on the new switch. Element worked fine. Tested the rest of the stove, just to make sure I didn't mess anything up. Everything worked. Replaced back panel. Cleaned up areas on the stove that are hard to reach while stove is in place. Slid stove back in place. Works like a champ.

Cracked igniter electrode
The part was exactly the right size for my model and worked perfectly. The repair however, as others have mentioned, was not so smooth. The set screw that holds the old part in place locks up and/or breaks off, in which case you have to either drill out the old screw or resort to adhesives. After several attempts to remove the screw head and shaft unsuccessfully, I ended up using loc-tite to hold the electrode in place. All this was done from beneath the burner by popping the range top up and propping it with a board. Tricky to put back too.
