8 inch surface element melted at elbow to terminal block - shot out a 6 inch flame.
Note: This is the first time I've ever tried fixing a stove. First, I ordered a new element. Took a minute to install, but it didn't solve the problem. I ordered a terminal block kit and switch kit. Replaced the terminal block. Took about 10 minutes. Only problem was the shrink sleeves melted. Electrician's tape remedied the problem. Tested the element again. It still didn't work. Following instructions provided, replaced the old switch with the new universal switch. First unplugged stove. Removed upper back panel. Took a closeup photo of switch connections, in case I messed up. Removed old switch, leaving all wires connected. Per instructions, mounted new switch and fitted dial to proper length - took about two minutes. Permanently mounted new switch. New switch wire terminals were not in the same location as on the old switch. No matter, both old and new switch terminal designations are clearly marked. Transferred wires from old terminals, one at a time, and connected to corresponding terminal on new switch. Plugged in stove. Turned on the new switch. Element worked fine. Tested the rest of the stove, just to make sure I didn't mess anything up. Everything worked. Replaced back panel. Cleaned up areas on the stove that are hard to reach while stove is in place. Drip bowls catch any spills, and are a quick, easy, and cheap way to improve your cooktop aesthetic. While the replacement may be visually different from the original, it will fit your appliance. If your drip bowl has become discolored, corroded, or otherwise damaged, it needs to be replaced. This drip bowl is sold individually, so if you would like to replace all 4 drip bowls on your appliance you will need to account for this. No tools are required for installation, simply line up the hole on the bowl with the terminal block and drop it into place.
