The washer was not agitating
I removed the Softner dispenser and used a socket wrench to remove the entire agitator. Then replaced it with the new one. It was so worth doing it myself. I cost us about $50.00 and that would have been the cost of having a service call. without parts and labor. I was thankful that it was an easy job and one that I could figure out. It saved us a ton of money. Since I don't know the names of any of the parts on this machine, it was nice to have pictures that go along with the parts online. It allowed me to order the correct part.

Agitator, not working, spins freely on drive shaft
I was emboldened after reading other reviews by how easy it was to replace the agitator in my Whirlpool, with comments like "it took less than an hour". Well, that might be true for some... The video also made it look easy, so I ordered the replacement part. I did not disassemble the machine in advance but I did enough troubleshooting to determine that the clutch was fine, but the agitator failed to spin during operation. When the part arrived I followed the video, but I was unable to loosen the retaining bolt. The failure of the agitator was a result of stripped gear on the inside of the agitator, so it just spun loosely or, during the wash cycle, not at all. Because the gear teeth failed to grip, I was unable to use the agitator to hold the shaft stationary while loosening the attaching bolt. My only option was to cut the plastic agitator away from the shaft using a rotary cutter, being careful not to damage the shaft or the bolt. This was a painful, time consuming job but, with patience, it can be done. Have a shop vac handy because you'll have to stop on numerous occasions to vacuum up plastic pieces and dust, so they don't slip through the small holes in the drum and clog your drain. The problem was compounded because during the initial installation they had used excessive amounts of Loctite and the bolt was glued pretty tightly to the shaft. Anyway, after approx. 4 hours of troubleshooting/repair work the washer is back in operation, and I still saved money on the deal, so I'm a satisfied customer..

Making groaning noise in spin
Having been out of the business for quite a few years I thought that I was dealing with a direct drive machine. Thinking that it was the motor coupler. I removed the control panel and attempted to pull the cabinet froward. Not so, it had a solid cabinet, so I tilted the machine against the wall and looked under the washer finding the driven Transmission pulley loose on the shaft. The splines on the pulley were pretty well worn but I tightened the nut and it worked okay. But I ordered a pulley and replaced after it's arrival. The motor capacitor also broke it's mount off so I had to rehang it with zip ties and repaired the wires to the Capacitor, (Which BTW had about 22 gauge wire). I found it hard to believe that they would use such small wire.

original agitator "gears" were worn making the rotation / agitation work poorly
When the parts arrived it was relatively easy to remove the entire agitator system with one socket through the top of the molded plastic. The new parts were exact fit (even exact color) so repair was fairly easy.
Once the bolt is removed allowing removal of the entire agitator, the remaining parts come apart without tools. The only problem is if the new part comes apart. The "gears" can be put in backwards not allowing for the proper agitation.

agitator was not turning
I removed all center plastic pcs. by pulling them out by hand. No tools required until you get to nut, unscrewed nut counterclockwise and then pulled straight up on agitator. Set it on the ground and replaced worn parts. Reversed setup to put back together. P.S. Agitator snaps on and off, it takes a little force ..........AFTER NUT IS REMOVED OF COURSE.

Upper Agitator not working
I am so glad that I found this site!! We had our washing machine looked at by a repair guy that wanted to charge us $90 +labor to repair the agitator. I looked on this site and found the parts and how to fix it myself. It cost me $6.52!!!! I can't believe that he was going to charge me for the agitator when all it was, was the dog ear cams!

Thanks again!

Greg

3. Used 3/8 inch drive with 6 inch extension and
7/16 socket to remove agitator bolt.
4. Removed whole agitator assembly.
5. Removed top agitator from bottom agitator. NOTE: This required alot of force due to age of machine.
6. Removed cam assembly.
7. Installed new cam assembly.
8. Reversed steps to re-assemble.
Note: Before I installed the plastic cover for agitator bolt, I cleaned the O-ring and mating surface to ensure a good seal.
