Won't agitate
This is the second time in 6 or 7 years that I have changed the agitator. I will say that considering the amount that I use the machine I am not surprised. What I will say is that it is easier, quicker, and possibly cheaper to just change the agitator than changing the dogs. Basically, you remove one bolt and pop on the new agitator.

The clothes mover on the agitator was not turning properly.
This washer is 17 years old. The whole assembly didn't cost that much more than the parts I needed so I decided to replace the whole agitator assembly not just the dog ear assembly. The video on part select were helpful. I removed the fabric softener dispenser. Reached in and removed the cap barrier with seal. Did this by hand, needle nos

e pliers were not necessary. Remove the retaining bolt using a 7/16 socket wrench with a 8" extension. Reach in and grab the bottom of the lower agitator and pull the whole assembly straight up out of the washer. I assembled the new parts placing the thrust spacer on top of the agitator. I placed the preassembled cam with dog ears and bearing down into the bottom of the clothes mover. I placed the clothes mover onto the agitator making sure the cam assembly lined up with the thrust spacer properly before I snapped the clothes mover in place. This was the most difficult part of the assembly but was still easy I placed this assembly over the drive shaft of the washer and re-attached the retaining screw and washer. I coated the seal of the barrier cap with liquid detergent and placed it into the clothes mover. Snapped the fabric softener dispenser. Done, works great. It took longer for me to write this than it did to fix the washer.

Washer would not agitate.
The trouble shooting guide advised that 44 percent of the time it was the dog ears. That was not it. Then 17 percent of the time it is the motor coupler. Not that either. Spoke to a local repair they advised it would be the transmission. So before replacing that the trouble shooting guide had a higher percent on the agitator. I ordered th

e agitator followed the video and that did not fix it either. By this time laundry was piling up so I picked up a used transmission locally. Then contacted this site about a return slip, mailed off the agitator and in just a few days my money was returned. Great customer service but the trouble shooting leaves a little to be desired. The used transmission has me back in business, now if it fails I know my symptom and I will order a new one next time around!

The 7/16" bolt was completed rusted through
I called our local appliance repair who is also an authorized Whirlpool retailer. We were told the only way to get the rusted sheared off bolt out is to cut through the plastic of the old agitator to get enough plastic out of the way to get below the bolt to get it out. I don't have the tools to cut into the agitator, and even if I did
