NED4705EW1 Whirlpool Dryer - Instructions

Bought the heater element and was fortunate to see a video of "how to" replace. Was quite straight forward really. Just needed a 1/4 inch socket...with preferably an extension to take off the back of the dryer. the only thing that was a little different in real life from the video was taking off the thermostat from the heater element. I used a screwdriver to bend the metal fork back so I could remove it. Other than that, I was done in 40 minutes.

Thank goodness for the video!!! Really helped. Removed screws from back, loosened wires and screws on old element. Toughest part was getting thermostat off of old element. Video mentioned screws, my unit was attached via a metal tab. Took some figuring to get it apart and not damage thermostat. Getting new unit into venting was tight fit - had to fit juuuuuusst right. Re-attach screws, plug it in to test - hot air. Reassembly no problem. I am not a real handy guy so for me to say this was easy means it was really easy.

The replacement was SUPER easy, and way cheaper than a new dryer. Many people will buy a new dryer rather than mess with the hassle of a part. The biggest hassle of this part was the size confinement of the space. Other than that, I feel like I have a brand new dryer!

Took my VOM and did a continuity test on the heating coil and thermos switch. Heating coil was open

I thought I had checked the arm piece of the rack real good for a product number on my original part but I missed the number till the 2nd box came in, and a looked real careful and realized it was the same as the order I thought was bad.
Put the spring arm in first and the rack will fit in the front groove.
It would have been good if there had been a picture of the dryer arm attached to the dryer.
So I have 2 good racks and will return one if you tell me where to send it.

Removed the back cover off the dryer removing 9 screws. Heating element was in lower right corner as described on your site. We removed the screws holding it on and using pliers disconnected the two wires. We had to use one piece from the old element so keep it until all the repairs are complete. We reconnected the two wires and replaced the cover. We were ready to go then. We are not good at applaince repairs but with the directions given at your site this was so easy. Thanks!! I am sure this saved us so much by doing it ourselves.

After unplugging the dryer, I removed the 8 screws on the back of the dryer, then removed the large metal plate covering the heating element. I then removed the two connectors from the element. I had to remove what I think is the thermostat from the old element, and then put it on the new one. I then reversed all previous steps. Lo and behold ... the dryer was heating again! I could not have done this without PartSelect.com. Their site, images, part info and user repair stories all helped in making me (a very un-handy guy) a successful repair man ,,, and helped me save over $150!

Took off back of dryer, removed screws from
heater unit, replaced wire for wire on to new unit,
I could not replace all screws, no hole in new unit.
all work great.

The toughest part of the job was due to the fact that I was working in a small 1st floor laundry room. I had to pull the dryer out from the wall in order to get to the rear and squeeze between it and the washer to get behind it. I could not pull it out all the way because the 220 cord is only so long and the vent comes out also. After that, I unplugged the power cable, removed the vent, removed the back with my nut driver, disconnected a couple connectors, removed the existing heat element with my nut driver. Then I installed the new heating element and continued with doing all of the above in reverse. My wife is happy! Best of luck to all....Jerry

I removed the back of the dryer with the socket set which included about 8-9 screws. I then removed the two wires going to the safety thermostat on the side of the heating element. I then used the socket set with an extension to remove the two screws (one on each side) of the heating element. You have to pull out the bottom first to get it out of the lip it sits in then pull down. Remove the thermostat by sliding off the terminal clamp then bending the metal mounting bracket so you can slide off the thermostat. Now do everything in reverse and you have a brand new heating element!

All I needed to do was remove the back panel and the element was clearly visable. I disconnected the wires keeping track of where they were connected, slid the element out of the long metal casing, then inserted the new element and re-connected the wires. That's it! Keep in mind that the dryer was disconnected for safety.

I shorted the thermal cutout after removing the back.
I then ordered the thermal Cut-Off Kit from PartSelect.
While this was not my first order from them, I was still impressed with the ease and by how soon I received the part without any hassles or glitches. PartSelect will be my primary parts supplier from now on.

First I removed the back plate of the dryier, 6 bolts,. the heating elemant was held in place by 2 bolts then slides into the venting chamber, disconect the female conections lower old heating elemant, revers and repeat. i dont fix much but this was a snap, clean the machine while your in there

Just popped it into place. Was very easy. Took less than 5 minutes.

New handle just snapped in - really easy. Have to compliment Part Select - I ordered handle one day and it was delivered the next day. Impressive!
