I googled 'replace dryer belt' and found instructions on the 'Virtual Repair Man' web site. After reading the instructions through twice I began.

First I removed lent filter and removed the two screws that hold the lent body in place. I rotated the top panel up and back and leaned it on the wall; proped up the dryer drum with some scrap wood pieces; rotated the front panel of the machine out enough to slip the new belt, groves down, around the drum; reinstalled the idler pulley under the drum; raised the drum slightly and reattached the front panel. Reattached the top panel and replaced the filter. Did a test run and worked good.

I got a price from Sears for the part and they were asking $45 just for the belt. I saved enough in parts and labor to take my wife out for a real nice dinner. thanks

After only 4 years, my Maytag dryer stopped producing any heat although it would continue to run (drum would turn) but never auto-shut-off. After reading several entries on this site I narrowed the issue down to the 'Heating Element'. I've never done a dryer repair before but I took a shot and ordered the part. I unplugged the dryer first (of course) then removed the 8 or 10 1/4" screws from the back of the dryer which removed the entire back panel. I also had to disconnect the dryer vent. The heating element is on the bottom right, covered by a silver aluminum casing. I removed another 2 screws to take out that casing (and the element with it). Next was simply using a pair of pliers to remove one wire at a time from the old element and connecting it to the new element in the same place. There were only 3 or 4 total. I put everything back together, plugged it in a voila - I had a working dryer again. I just took my time and made sure everything was hooked up exactly as it was before. Made sure the Dryer was unplugged. Removed the screws from the back of the Dryer. Removed the screws that held the heating element in place. (mine was located on the bottom right side)Disconnected the the wires leading to the heating element. The connectors holding the wires in place were very snug, I had to use needle nose pliers to remove them. Then I just simply reversed the process. The edges are very sharp also.

The replacement was SUPER easy, and way cheaper than a new dryer. Many people will buy a new dryer rather than mess with the hassle of a part. The biggest hassle of this part was the size confinement of the space. Other than that, I feel like I have a brand new dryer!

First thing was to disconnect power to the dryer. I lifted the top lid and found 1 screw on each side at the top near the front and removed them. I also removed the door switch (CLIPPED ON) leaving the wires connected to the actual switch. Then the front panel lifts up and outward. I was able to install the belt from the front, guiding it back to the pulley/idler arm. Reassembled and it worked great. The belt I bought from this site appears to be better than original stock. It should last a long time. :)

Took my VOM and did a continuity test on the heating coil and thermos switch. Heating coil was open

Pretty much just followed the video - I'd never opened a dryer before, so I'd watch a step, pause and do it, then run the video a few more minutes, and repeat. These dryers are really extremely simple devices: just a heater, then a motor to spin the drum and run the fan (I think the same motor does both). So you loosen a couple of screws, pry the metal case open, and slip on the new belt. Done! I didn't keep track of time, but I'm psyched to have saved myself a $200 repair call! Standard delivery arrived in less than two days, just like they said it would.

Followed the instructions and the repair went like clockwork, took less than an hour. I spent more time brushing and vacuuming old lint from the innards of the machine than I did doing the actual repair. Finished up $0.78 richer, too, from the change I found inside the machine.

Was a little hard getting at the idler pulley being it was behind the blower assembly, but it was the only draw back.

It went as I expected opened the back with the nutdriver about 6 screws. And the element waste right infront detached the wires and pulled it out cut myself on the sharp edge but not to bad the only trouble I had was getting the thermostat off the old element

Shut off power and gas, unscrewed lint vent, raised top on angle with rope, unscrewed and moved door switch, unscrewed and took off front, put new belt around drum, then raised front end of drum with 4 narrow pieces of 1" foam insulation which let me view and install the belt connection to the drive motor shaft, adjusted the level of the drum using the rope holding up the top, removed foam pieces, replaced and rescrewed the front to fit the drum front channel, replaced the door switch, replaced the top and screwed it to the lint vent, returned gas and power, and ran confirmation test.

Repair was fast and easy,just took off back panel,and removed heating element part. just a couple nuts, and unplug old unit, and plug in new one! Part recieved super fast and exact match!

I went to repair the dryer belt only to realize that it was jumping off the pulley(edge was worn away). If you are replacing the belt, make sure your pulley is good before you order your parts. I ended up having to go to lowes and make a pulley!
Works great though.

I watched an online video about how to replace a dryer belt & followed the directions. Placing the belt around the drum is easy but stringing it thru the pulley is a little difficult because the belt has tension. This takes a little effort but is doable. Dryer runs great now........Be sure to unplug appliance 1st........

Took back cover off, unhooked wires,removed screws,removed heating element,put new element on and reinstalled everything else..Now it has great heat!
