How to Fix a Hinge for a Washer That Has Locking Issues
The hinges on your washer lid allow you to open and close the lid when you are using your washer. If the hinges are damaged or loose, then the washer lid may not lock or unlock properly. You may also note that the lid on your washing machine may not be securely fastened, and you may have difficulty moving the lid up and down. The lid hinge can be damaged from pushing down on the lid too hard or pushing the lid too far back.
What are Hinges?
Lid hinges secure your washer lid to the rest of the machine. They are screwed into the lid, and they allow the lid to pivot up and down smoothly. There are two hinges, one on either side of the lid. It is possible that one or both hinges are faulty. However, even if only one is faulty, we recommend that you replace both, as they tend to wear down at the same time and it is likely that both will develop issues at the same time.
Where are the Hinges Located?
You can find the lid hinges on the underside of the washer lid, towards the back.
