The impeller (or fan) is fastened in the blower housing and attaches to the crankshaft of the engine. When the impeller rotates it creates airflow. Sometimes rocks or other debris can get sucked up into the fins, which can cause damage. When the fins get damaged, this can cause the impeller to fail, resulting in the inability to blow air.
