Valve replacement resulted in leak after using steam wand
After many years in service, I replaced the valves so I could restore my steam wand operation. The nylon threads of the elbow tube disintegrated after thousands of heat cycles. As a result, after the steam cycle would run, the pressure would cause water to leak from the threads, as it no longer made a water-tight connection.
I used the tweezers to remove the pin that secures the hose into the elbow connector.
Remove the hose from the connector.
Remove the elbow connector.
Clean any remnants of debris from the valve threads.
Position the elbow connector onto the threads, making sure not to cross the threads.
Turn the connector clockwise down onto the threads of the valve.
Once finger tight, use pliers to tighten, making small adjustments and testing for leaks.
To test, make sure to put the nylon ring gasket onto the end of the hose and insert it into the top of the elbow connector.
Install the pin to lock into place.
Plug in the machine and power on.
When the boiler is hot, turn the steam function on. Let it run until steam starts flowing and turn it off.
Looking at the connector, check for water leaking from the bottom of the connector. If water leaks, use the pliers to tighten the connector a little more. Repeat this process until no water leaks out.
