The bi-metal defrost thermostat is attached to the evaporator, and its purpose is to protect the evaporator from overheating when the defrost cycle is running. If there is frost building up in your freezer, or it gets too warm during the defrost cycle, there may be an issue with the thermostat. You can use a multimeter to determine if it is the thermostat or the heater itself that is faulty. If you do need to replace the thermostat, this is a genuine OEM part. As this repair requires some electrical work, please be sure to disconnect the power supply to your fridge before starting this project. You will need a Phillips screwdriver, a 1/4-inch nut driver, a flat blade screwdriver, wire strippers, electrical tape, and butt splice connectors in order to complete this repair.

This is an authentic OEM replacement part. This defrost thermostat is commonly used in refrigerators. It features snap on tubing clip, and has two female terminals for connection. The thermostat works in conjunction with the defrost heater and the defrost timer. When the coils on your refrigerator are too cold and frost is building the timer tells the heater it is time to warm the coils up, and when the coils reach a certain temperature the thermostat signals the heater it?s time to shut off. Basically when the thermostat opens the heater shuts off, it prevents the coils from overheating. This defrost thermostat cuts out at 40 degrees Fahrenheit, and it kicks back at 25 degrees Fahrenheit. If you notice your fridge or freezer are too warm you may need to replace your defrost thermostat.
