SAV5701AWQ Maytag Washer - Instructions

The instructions included were very good. The biggest problem I ran into was removing the inner tub from off the hub. Using PB Blaster was the trick there, but still took some effort to finally pry it lose without damage. The hub screwed right off after and removing the Triple Lip Seal was easy enough with screw drivers. Cleaned things up and replaced it by gently tapping around it to seat it evenly. Reassembly also went well, but I DO HAVE a story. Being as careful as I thought I could be, I still somehow broke the outer tub. I read about others experience, buying and using JB Weld WaterWeld to fix it. Now the washer is so quiet again that you have to look into the drain tub to see if it is spinning. AWESOME

pulled off the old & pushed on the new

popped off fabric softener dispenser, 1/2" socket on 8" extension to remove 1 bolt. Lift agitator to remove and clean area under agitator in tub. Lower new agitator onto spindle (pretty much aligned itself) and re-inserted bolt to secure in place. Replaced softener dispenser...done. REALLY easy....

remove motor and pump togather 4 bolts holding unhook two hose unplug electrial connector and slide out remove 3 screws holding pump to motor be aware of direction belt from moter to tub then place new pump back at same location as old pump replace motor with pump attached back to same location as begfor

Although the Maytag website no longer had a repair manual in their database, I was able to locate one fairly easily online. After removing the motor/washer pump, it was easy to remove the 3 screws holding the washer pump to the motor. Unfortunately, it turned out the motor hub shaft had corroded and removing the pump needed some ... persuasion. Patience and a rubber mallet eventually separated the water pump from the motor. Re-installing went quickly and, so far, no leaks and the washing machine has not started walking across the floor.

Removed old hose, drained the water from the hose. Put new hose on.

I opened the bottom and found the belt had broke in half. i ordered a new belt from Maytag online and found a you tube video that showed exactle how to change it. the only thing i had to do afterwards was tighten the tensioner.eazy pezy!

Repair went well using posted instructions. My advice is always replace pump as you will damage seal when pulling pump off shaft.

knife to losen top, remove rear tabs securing top, unplug electical from timer and switches, unplug front door wiring, 2 bolts remove front, lift front pannel to remove. tape belt on drum on top. under drum you can see the belt around worn pulley. lift idler pulley assembly, remove belt from pulley, snap ring holds pulley in place remove woren pulley, install new, replace snap ring, restring belt. remove tape. spin drum to assure alignment. reassemble.

Used a socket wrench with extensions to remove agitator bolt and washer, removed and replaced agitator, reattached waher and bolt. Hardest part was realigning washer at bottom of agitator shaft.

Removed the tension spring from the belt retention belt, removed the belt from the large pulley in the back of the washer, removed the 4 bolts holding in the motor and washer pump, removed wiring harness, disconnected the inlet and outlet hoses from the pump and pulled out the motor and the washer pump. Turned the motor over and using the Torx driver (#20) removed the 3 bolts holding on the pump. Gently wiggled and pried the washer pump off of the motor, replaced the pump and tightened down the Torx bolts carefully so the pump didn't crack or break it is just plastic, but had to be sure the pump was seated tightly so the pump would fit back into place and also so it wouldn't leak, after making sure it was tightly attached I reversed the process to put it back together.

Fixed the problem easy to do just take your time putting in bearing in plastic tub

My neighbor did the repair for me and I believe the instructions sent were the reason he had no trouble installing it.

Laid washer back on a appliance dolly, removed the front cover, checked to see if the hose was touching the motor mount (it was). Removed the drain hose from the pump and standoffs, removed the hose and disk from the back of the washer that holds the hose. Replaced the hose on the pump, turn the standoff to move the hose farther from the motor mount, and install it in the disk. May be easier to measure the hose and do the disk first as it is not easy to get the hose bent when it is installed first on the pump.
