top agitator barely turns during wash
My top agitator didn't turn much during the wash cycle, but would turn rather freely by hand. I watched the video (Steve's). When I removed the fabric softener cup I could see that the dogs' "teeth" were worn off. That was the problem. I ordered the dogs (under $20, shipped). I borrowed an extension for my socket set, and that's all I needed.

Hint: I rinsed the cap-and-seal assembly with warm water to loosen the soap/softener that had stuck it in place, dried it, then I removed it just by pulling it up. The bolt was pretty tight and I had to hold the lower agitator in place while loosening the bolt. My washer differed slightly from the one in the video: the retainer for the dogs was under the top agitator so lining everything up after replacing the dogs was a little trickier, but still no big deal. The repair took about 15 minutes. I'm a do-it-yourself woman, but I'd never repaired the washer before. The video was very helpful.

Both outside door handles turned very beige
Everything worked perfectly---thanks to the suggestion of your call center agent. She suggested that since the replacement door handles were no longer available, I should consider repainting them--it worked like a charm. Please tell her she was a life saver. We rent that house in Fl and my returning tenants had complained about the discoloring refer handles. Thank you

Washing Machine would not agitate
There are 4 cogs that are in contact with a gear which slips in one direction and catches in the other direction as the agitator oscillates back and forth. Two of the cogs were broken and the agitator would no longer turn thus the cloths would not circulate properly through the wash and rinse cycles. The cogs (dogs), by some manufacture’s name, cost $3.83 and just over 10 dollars total including S&H.
There is also an excellent video on the PartSelect site which shows exactly how to remove the agitator, dismantle and then reassemble it. The cogs were simple to replace.
I would not have had the slightest idea how to do this without the video. My first thoughts, when I saw that the agitator wasn't working were A:Oh no I'm going to need to tear the washing machine completely apart to fix the problem or B:Replace the whole washing machine.....I'm sure there are many folks who would have just given up and used plan B. This is a great Website! I'm sure I'll be back here for other household repairs.

Agitator was nice (not agitating)
Pulled off the top of the agitator (softener dispenser) the plug and the bolt holding the agitator on. Pulled the agitator out and removed the cup that held/holds the cogs. Found the broken plastic cogs. Got on the internet and hunted the parts. Found out they were called cogs and didn't have to order the entire machine to get them. Ordered and expected 5 days of dirty laundry.

agitator wasn't working right. Was not catching like it should.
Remove cap on top of agitator with screw driver or other thin edged tool. It pries off. You will see a cap down inside the agitator tube. Pull out that cap with fingers or pliers. You will see a nut under it. Use ratchet with extender to reach it and unscrew turning counter clock wise. after it is unscrewed, pull the agitator straight up and out of machine. Then you will have to pull the top part of agitator from the bottom part to separate the two pieces of the aitator. Then remove the dogs ( little catches in the one piece) . Replace them into the slots with the new ones and carefully put the two pieces of the agitator back together. Put agitator back into machine and tighten the bolt, snap the cap back on and you are back in business.
