970-C90862-00 Kenmore Washer Dryer Combo - Instructions

I'm not very mechanically inclined, but even I thought this was a pretty easy repair. Just pull off the old seal and glide and glue on the new one. I let the glue dry over night, but in reality it probably would have been fine to use the dryer after an hour or so. We've been laundry all day and everything seems tip-top.

Took out the drum by removing rear bearing and replaced with new one. Replaced top glides at same time.

1.) Unplug Dryer
2.) pop dryer lid by depressing 2 front clips with flat head screw dryer
3.) on back of dryer remove access cover and release belt tension
4.) remove front panel screws and then pop off front panel
5.) remove old gasket. Used XACTO knife, razor blades and acetone. Go slow and be careful.
6.) apply new high temp glue, let set up for a minute
7.) position the new felt gasket and clamp into place. I used C-Clamps and squeeze clamps.
8.) I let sit overnight.
9.) re-assemble and good to go.

NOTE: In retrospect I should have replaced both seals at the same time. The bottom seal is pretty worn but is still working out for now.

I had trouble with the little piece on the back side of the dryer not lining up with the bearing housing. I also didn't see how the drum was gonna stay in place but finally realized the front cover lines it up. All in all it was awesome to get the part I needed so quickly and cheap, thanks a lot.

I followed others instructions on this site to disassemble but felt confident since 2-3 years prior I had replaced the felt top/bottom guides around the drum and the drum belt. The video on this page is also helpful

1) Pop the top with a putty knife
2) Unscrew two screws that hold the front onto the dryer frame
3) Lift front from two clips at bottom of dryer
4) Release tension from belt (unscrew/remove rear access plate)
4) Lift drum up and forward out of dryer
5) Unscrew drum bearing 3x screws from inside of drum
5) Remove the drum bearing holder
6) Pre-thread the rear drum bearing!!! Very important. Thread by screwing a supplied screw slowly through the pre-drilled holes.
7) Attach drum bearing
8) Attach new rear holder/cup & ball bearing (ball bearing goes on outside of plastic cup)
9) Use lots of supplied grease, espeiclly helpful that it acts as a temporary glue holding the ball bearing in place
10) Reverse steps to assemble

I'm glad I bought the entire rear bearing kit as I found the bearing holder had completely worn through and partially melted the metal cup. The ball bearing was missing - gone!

Also found that the power cord had partially melted, so I replaced that from the hardware store. Scary.

I followed the directions that came with the new Drum Glide kit. Unplugged the machine from the wall outlet. Raised the top of the machine which only required releasing the front top clips. Removed the two screws that hold the front cover on. Unplugged the harness connectors to the controls on the front cover. Pulled the front cover loose from the retaining clip and raised it to release the lower part of the front cover. I then removed both the Glide and the lower seal. Had to use Acetone to remove the old adhesive. Used the adhesive that came in the kit to put the new glide and lower basket seal on. I used small clamps to ensure a good fit as the adhesive cured.
Then I put the front cover on raising the drum in the front to allow it to fit into the front cover. The rest was the reverse of what I did to remove the cover. I feel this is an ease repair. The hardest part is cleaning the old adhesive off.

I have a frigidaire dryer about 5 years old.

I first removed the top cover being careful to watch how the wires to the controls are connected. It is best to snap photos with your digital camera so you can remember how to reconnect the wires.

Pulling up on the drum, I lifted it out of the rear sleeve. Once out, you could easily see why it squealed. The metal bearing had groves on it where is made contact with the holder.

The difficult part of this was getting the 3 screws that hold the bearing to the drum off. The phillips screw head was easily marred if you don't have the proper screw driver bit. I think a better screw head would make the job easier.

After removal, the replacement was a snap. When everything was back together, the dryer sounded like new. The job took me about 2 hrs due to the hard part of removing the screws.

Took the drum out, saw that the top part, drum guide was wore and three plastic guides were wore plus broken. Called Partselect to order part and they recommended the replacement of Lower basket seal. Which made sense once we looked at it.

The parts arrived with regular shipping in two days.

Had to remove the worn parts. Make sure the old glue is removed and the service is clean before installing new guide and seal. They include glue with the packet.

We put the new parts on and using finger pressure made sure the guide and seal fit firmly to the drum. We let it sit over night and put the drum back in the next day.

While we were at it the dryer received a thorough cleaning around the parts you cannot get to when the drum is installed.

The dryer now works fine.

I popped the dryer top off by lifting up on the front edge, then removed two screws that held the from pannel on, then pulled out on the top of the front pannel, and lifted the front pannel off the machine. the toughest part was scrapping the old felt glue residue off the rim. I used a single edged razor blade tool, and a 3/4 inch chissel. After that it's just applying the glue that came with the top slide, sticking on the felt, and clamping it for a few minutes. Reassemble and done. I will say that the instructions on the felt say that the painted surface on the dryer drum should be intact, and the paint on mine was worn off, and a bit rusted. I initially thought that the dryer was burning the tip of cloths, but I think the marks were rust marks. My hope is that the new felt will stop the cloths from getting into the drum slide: time will tell.

Removed dryer top. Unscrewed the screw from each side inside the dryer the ones below the control panels. Don't unscrew those you will just have to put them back. Insert a flathead screw driver on the left side to loosen the front panel and slide it gently to the right. You can replace the drum glide without disconnecting any of the wires. Remove old drum glide and clean. Install new one and while the glue dries clean inside the dryer. Mine was very dirty!!!! Put everthing back and your ready to go. Don't forget to hook back the dryer vent. Thank you partselect my dryer is almost like new and is drying so much faster, no more noise and you have saved me lots of money.

first and foremost, watching video on replacement/repair was key to success.furthermore, i ordered part one day and was at my doorstep the following day. the installation process took approximately half of an hour which included vaccuuming cabinet of lint.

I ordered parts, recieved in 2 days. came with upper glide, glue and instructions. instructions were easy to read and follow. I used the wood chisel to remove old felt, cleaned well with some solvent, reap[plied glue, wait a few minutes , apply felt - reassemble dryer - viola- done. very satisfied customer

removed 2 screws, and released the clips holding the top of dryer. Lift top of dryer to expose drum. Remove old drum guide. Clean old adhesive off. Apply new adhesive, and attach new drum guide.

Works like new now
