2048778180 Kenmore Upright Vacuum - Instructions

This is the same part that is on many Maytag washers. I cannot believe it leaked so soon. I spent 45 minutes or better on the phone with Maytag/Roper. Went through at least 5 people (as I was disconnected once), transfered to someone else mid sentence because I bought it at Lowes. I mean as soon as I said Lowes it was like, beep done. Oh and by the way after all that they still could not find the part I was looking for let alone give me a price. I was looking on the internet while on the phone and found this place. The prints/drawings are awesome and my part came in about 3 days standard shipping. I have book marked this site and will go nowhere else. The repair took about 5 minutes, poped off the old part and on with the new. I only used pliers to disconnect the water so I could move the washer out.

only needed a pair of pliers.

First I removed the clamps that holds the pump in place.
Next I removed the water hose clamps.
Then I did the reverse to finish the repair.

I pulled the machine out about two feet from the wall. No need to disconnect any hoses. Tip up the front, place an automotive jack stand under the front of the machine to hold it approximately a foot and a half up. Lay on the floor, remove the hose clamps, flip the two spring clips off that hold the pump, and it's off in minutes. Place the new pump in position and replace the two spring clips, slide the hoses back on and install the clamps. It couldn't be easier or quicker. Replacing the pump took 5-10 minutes max. The longest part of the project was cleaning up the spilled water..!

pulled the washer away from the wall and turned it on its side. I had to remove the gear box and motor to get to the part. Had to remove the whole insides. Install the part and put everything back in.

First, disconnect from power & turning off the water. Then, tried to access the part by tipping the unit back enough to work. Was able to remove the hoses by loosening the spring clamps.. The pump motor shaft had corroded enough to make removal of the pump almost impossible. The washer had to go full onto its back side; had to pry with on the pump with the crowbar and tap the crowbar to get the pump to slowly move off of the shaft. Once forced off, additional time was spent removing corrosion from the shaft. A little lube was used on the shaft. Re-assembly was quick & washer was righted, plugged in and returned to service. Much better than buying a whole new washer.

The WEB site is excellent, and I believe has been put together by very experienced repair people.

The Trouble shooting tree is excellent, it went right to the problem.

I would give the whole repair operation an EXCELLENT Rating except for one show stopping omission.

The console on my unit is SCREWED to the TOP REAR of the washer.
This step is missing in the video. The two screws are easy to miss as they are in a recessed area. Also the console is attached to the top with plastic fitting that fit into recessed openings in the top. To make matters worse, using a putty knife to release the spring clips may actually damage the plastic fittings.

It may be that the manual covers this change, but I did not print it out. A possible solution might be to put a warning in the video to inform the repair person to look in the manual for this change.

Over All - A VERY GOOD JOB. I will use it again if needed, and I have sent your URL to several of my friends.

1. turn off water valves going to washer
2. disconnect hoses and electric in back of washer
3. put screwdriver under top control panel and pry
control panel up
4. flip control panel back
5. use screwdriver to pry gold colored clips on right and
left which secure washer housing
6. pull housing forward until completely off washer
7. at this point the partselect website recommended
tilting the washer on it's back but I chose to work
on the pump with the washer upright
8. pull both hose clamps on the two hoses attached to
the pump back and remove the two hoses
9. remove the two metal clamps holding the pump
10. pull the pump directly off it's drive shaft
11. put the new pump on over the drive shaft making
sure the support "legs" of the new pump are in
their support holes.
12. basically work back through these steps to reassemble
the washer
13. The biggest problem I had was getting the housing
back on the washer. I was working by myself and it
was difficult to get the housing to seat properly
on the frame's metal flanges. I eventually got it
on and the washer is working great with NO LEAKS!
14. Piece of advice for getting the housing back on the
washer: Get the front of the housing on the front
of the frame first and then LOWER the housing DOWN
on the metal frame carefully matching the frame's
flanges with the holes in the housing.

Followed instructions on site, remove two screws holding contol panel and flipped up, disconnect water level tube(clear plastic), pry off two metal clips holding shell to back(on top,under control panel), remove shell. Water pump in front, bottom, two hoses. Remove hoses, pry off two metal clips
securing water pump. Water pump stuck on. Soaked with penetrating oil and let sit awhile. Reach behind pump and pry off. Turn impeller on new pump to align with flat sided shaft with finger in where hose connects. Slide pump onto shaft, tap lightly to get all the way in, put clips back on pump(tight), and hoses back on. Put shell back in place, clips back on top, water level hose back on panel, panel down, screws back in. Run machine, watch for leaks(water on floor). Had never done this before, this site made it easy. Thanks.

First disconnected water hoses, put machine on the back, removed hoses from the pump, then removed two metal retainers that hold the pump. Motor's shaft got so rusty, that I could not remove the pump. I spent two days (few hours each day), until I finally was able to snap it off. If that wasn't difficult enough, putting new pump on was even harder. Metal rusted thru, and expanded from long leaking (previous owners probably had this problem for a while). I spent a lot of time filing it down with dremel tool, until finally I was able to attach the pump on the motor. I almost gave up in the process, but I'm glad I didn't, it works great. Motor might fail soon tho due to the rust.

First disconnect power supply, close both water supply valves, move machine away from wall and tilt machine back so that front of machine was about 12 to 14 inches off the floor. Place bucket under pump and hoses, wrap plastic around electric motor to prevent water from getting in motor. Disconnect hoses allowing water to drain in bucket, remove two retainer clips on pump, and pry pump off motor shaft. Use sandpaper or wire brush to clean rust off shaft, apply a small amount of oil or other lubricant to motor shaft, install pump aligning pump drive to motor drive, install retaining clips and reconnect hoses. let it down, plug it in, and turn on water, then wash.

Replacing the motor was easy after watching the video on partselect. Unfortunately it turned out to be the safety switch on the lisd was broken.

It was real easy!!!! gave part to my maintenance man. he pulled old part off, then put new one on.

With assistance the washer was walked out the door to the deck where it could be drained.
The machine was examined, and the pump identified. THEN I found this site while looking
for the part. Had I started here, I would have learned that I could service in place by just
tilting it back against the wall! The part was identified, and phone call made to charming
rep and part arrived in a few days. Do be careful to keep track of the latches that clamp
the pump in place, as they can fall out when not clamped down on the pump.
No unusual tools or skills needed. Door clearance and outside temperature were greatest
issue for us, and wasn't even necessary.
As it was, my wife worked diligently to remove the inhaled sock from the pump. We gave up
on that as the #1 complaint on this pump was 'leaking'. Had I started here, repair time
would probably have been less than 30 min hands on time. We spent much more.
