Replaced straight shaft, and the gear head.
Removed the 2 bolts holding the gear head to shaft. On my model I had to remove the complete trimmer head, then using 2 wrench take the trimmer head adapter off the gear heD. One video showed simply putting a screwdriver in the notch behind trimmer head and unscrewing complete head. Mine of course was slightly more involved but still qui te easy once I saw what needed to be done.

Old curved shaft for Ryobi had seized-up and wouldn't turn
I have been using string trimmers for over 40 years now, doing the grounds work at a small motel, and this is the best combination I have found!

I have the new 40V battery carbon fiber shaft model, but I use the curved shaft. I have stacked stone walls and many obstacles to get around, and the curved shaft works best. But, Ry obi sends their straight shaft with the new trimmer, and it turns in the opposite direction (counter clockwise) and is hard for me to get into the areas I need.

To correct this, I use the Oregon brand Gatorhead, which fits on the Ryobi with no modiification (easy) and the line comes in spiral discs which can work for either direction of trimmer head to dispense effortlessly. Now, I have a new curved shaft on a new trimmer with the head turning in the clockwise direction.

This item has been discontinued, so get it when you find one, and stock up on line discs too!
