Big water leak
Bought this refrigerator secondhand from someone who was upgrading. They stored it on an unheated porch. When I connected the water line it started spraying everywhere. Removing the service panel showed the dual water valve had fractured and there was a big hole in the side. Replacement was fairly easy, but getting the existing hoses out of the sockets required a lot of prying. I have only attempted appliance repair a couple of times before.

Back pressure was making internal water dispenser drip
While trying to fix this problem, I spent around $100.00 on a new ice maker (not the problem), $250.00 for a professional to try to fix the problem, and another $60.00 on the dual water valve (not the problem). At the end of the day the problem turned out to be the 10" water line coming into the freezer was freezing solid. I would previously use a hair drier to heat the line and remove a 4" cylinder of ice from the line which I thought was clearing it, but in reality the line needs to be pulled out of the back of the refrigerator so you can just rest it in a bowl of hot water to remove the ice. I spent a good amount of money on this job and have learned to fix everything myself moving forward. The install of the water valve was simple and required just pulling the lines out of the old valve and pushing them into the new valve. Be sure to have a bowl to allow the lines to drain into, and turn off the water supply to the fridge. By the way no amount of googling my problem yielded advice on pulling the water line out the back of the fridge to remove the ice : (

No water to Inside water dispenser
Removing the valve assy. was easy, a few screws and it is off. Disconnecting the tubing was difficult. Not knowing how the tubes were affixed to the valve was a problem. Also, not easy. After getting the new valve installed. It was an easy matter to REPLACE the valve on the water pipe that was defective. If you read that right, my whole problem was the saddle valve in the basement that was the problem. So, moral of the story: Make real sure that you have water flowing to the valve before you replace it.

Ice maker no longer functions
Looked up on I thought - popular mechanics website for how to repair. The valve is a dual function filter and pump. I used on ohm meter to check the pump after I removed the cover on the back and disconnected the electrical. Found no ohms. Pop. Mechanics recommended I replace the valve. Parts select was easy to order, and arrived quickly. After 1/2 hour, it works great. I realized the hard water we have in the burbs of Chicago plugged the filter. The pump struggled until it burned out. Thanks guys.

water was pouring out from under my refrigerator
After investigating with a flashlight, I found the source of the leak. I pulled off the back panel and discovered the leaking pump. On Google, I found partsselect.com. I found the part and ordered it for $26, a fraction of what the repairman wanted to simply diagnose the problem. To replace, it was as easy as removing about 6 metal screws that held the back panel on, then releasing the hoses from the old pump. As a tip, I took several pictures with my digital camera as I took it apart (an old mechanics trick). This helped greatly in reassembly. Once the old part was removed, I simply followed the pic's to install the new one. I ran water throught he water dispensor for a while to get the air out of the lines. Done!

Water still works but not making ice
Easy DIY job! Pulled frig out, removed screws from lower left side where valve is...water hoses going in / out of pump are a push/pull design. UNPLUG THE FRIG FIRST! Grab the hoses and push it in while using a fingernail to pull up on the retaining clip, reinstall in reverse order..Ice maker started up immediately after I plugged it back in and turned the water back on :)
