ZISS42GDXASS General Electric Refrigerator - Instructions

Removed food from Freezer, Unplugged refrigerator. Removed light bulb cover and ligt bulb. Unplugged and removed Ice maker and motor. Removed air duct cover from motor. Unplugged and removed evaporator housing and fan. Pulled fan blade off. Unscrewed brackets from fan motor, removed dust cap from top of motor and grommet from bottom. New motor came with 6 pin connector and four pins for evaporator fan motor. Cut the harness grommet to separate the light bulb wiring from the evaporator motor's. Pushed the the old light bulb pins (red and orange) from old connector and push them in to the new fan motor connector. Reversed the process and no more noise

Removed controls face plate by inserting small screw driver into small holes located below the face plate releasing internal fastening catches and permits you to pull the face plate down and out toward you. Remove the electronic panel now exposed covering the solenoid by removing the 4 screws in the corners. Detach the electrical connector leading from the solenoid ( It may be prudent to unplug the refrigerator as a safety proceedure). Proceed to remove 2 screws holding the solinoid. If the sollinoid is corroded and difficult to remove and disengage from flap(door) controling the ice shaft aperture, it may be necessary to remove the flap by removing 2 small screws holding it in place. Be careful to note the small spring on the left hand side of the shaft which the flap rotates around since it to be re installed in the proper position when the parts are reassembled since it closes the flap after it is opened by the solonoid.
Reconnect the parts and and snap face plate back into place. Good Luck

Remove dispenser assembly in freezer door & replace solenoid.

it was easy. Open the fridge,untwist the old filter. Open the new filter, fill with tap water and twist in place. Run water through it for a few minutes to insure it is working and filters the water.

I watched the video, and noticed that they did not even turn off the water. The replacement took less than 30 seconds once the filter was filled with water.

Removing the trim ring around the control panel is the hard part. Be sure to watch the video on how this is done.
Follow the video instructions on how to remove the solenoid and you will not have any trouble.

Replace solenoid which controls the despenser door. It is usually rusted. The front panel snaps off easily. Then there are 4 screws for the panel. Once the panel is off, the solenoid is exposed. There are 3 screws for the solenoid. You may want to spray dw40 on the screws if they are also rusted. Make sure you turn fridge off before performing this repair.

Slide it over the fill hose and just line it up and put it in the slot.

I followed the easy video online that was mentioned in the paperwork that came with the part. The day before I replaced the flapper door for the ice chute and when I saw the rusted solenoid I immediately ordered that part which arrived the next day. I did not need to remove the border around the water/ice dispenser access area as shown in the video to install the parts. I did use a tiny screwdriver to press the little tabs on either side at the bottom of the front panel to release it to get to the parts. I was able to remove and replace the solenoid within minutes. And this was my first ever appliance repair attempt!

First I used an ice pick to punch the tabs under the control panel to remove the ice/water selector panel. Then I used a phillips screwdriver to remove the solenoid switch. Unplugged the switch and re-installed with new one I received in 2 days and shazaam it works like new.

Replaced Water Filter (twist off old filter; twist on new.)

I followed the instructions that were posted on the partselect website and the video tutorial. It really was as simple as everyone had commented. Like others have noted, once the small tabs on the bottom of the faceplate were released, the cover came right off. Unplug the wire connectors, don't force them off. Remove the four screws and voila, there's the whole system laid out in front of you. It took me longer to clean up all of the gunk that had built up over the years. Once the new part was installed, everything went back together veray easily. The machine works like new again. Thanks partselect, you saved me some serious $$$.
