RK966G*03 Hotpoint Range - Instructions

On thanksgiving day, as we were pre-heating the oven, electric sizzle, sparks and a little flame comes from our 24 year old oven. We were able to get dinner on the table and that evening I went looking for what I thought was going to be a difficult to find part. But I found the part on partselect. I ordered that evening and got it on saturday. Installation was a snap. The most difficult part was the nuts holding the wires were stuck on from time and heat and I worried about the wire from the small plate to the coil might break. A little wd-40 and a few minutes and they popped right off and right back on. Works great now.

Turned off power at breaker and removed old element and replaced new element.

Removed two screws to release the burner, then two screws to disconnect the wiring and replace them. Then inserted the burner int position and replaced the two screws which were removed to remove the burner.

Very easy, however you will need a flashlight to see by since the back of the oven is rather dark.

The bottom heating element burned out. Ordered the right part and my husband fixed the heating element. This saved a lot of money.Thanks, RM from South Carolina

Removed access screws from bake element cover, removed screws retaining wire connections on bake element, reverse procedure, and heat to burn off contaminants.

Getting the part out was easy. Turned the power off (of course) first. The outside nuts were corroded, so had to use a pair of pliers to get them off. The inside connectors were easier to get off. I had a little trouble getting the connectors on the wires. The metal part on the heating element kept wanting to bend. I finally had someone hold that in place while I made the connections. The outside screws were easy to put on. The oven now works great. I think the element was failing over a period of time, and we just didn't notice. I can't remember the last time I actually saw the element get RED hot. Works great. Thanks for your quick service and reasonable prices. Will definitely use you again, when I need parts like this. Turned off electricity at fuse box. Unscrewed old element and removed. Put in new element, screwed it in. Turned on electricity. Voila.

The longest step in the fix was the walk downstairs to turn off the breaker.
1 nut driver to remove the element from the oven. 1 screwdriver to disconnect. Just as simple to re-install.

If you have this oven I seriously recommend the $30 expense to replace the element before it fails. It honestly went out with a white hot welder's torch sort of short circuit that could have burned my house down.

Safety first! Flipped breaker for oven in main breaker box.
Removed two screws that hold element in place.
Pulled element out approximately three inches and disconnected the two wires from the element.
Be careful not to let wires slip back into opening.
Attach wires to new element and carefully put back in correct position. Install two screws to secure.
Flip breaker back on. Turn oven on and show the little woman what a handyman you are! She might be so impressed she'll bake a cake.

Very simple 4 screws/nuts ...off on...done.
Best part was that I ordered the part regular shipping on a Sunday. Monday was a holiday...the part was at my doorstep at 8AM Tuesday morning. Wow that's service.

First I removed the two screws that hold the element in place. I then pulled the element out about 3 inches and disconnected the two wires. Took the element out and put the new element in place. Used the original screws - not the ones came with new element - to secure the new element back in place. DONE.

Our home was built in 1990 and has an original GE oven in it. When the bake element broke in half, I thought for sure it meant buying a new oven.
