UNVIM98 Maytag Ice Maker - Instructions

I ordered a new ice maker from PartSelect. It was easy to identify the correct part using the online parts selector. The first step was to disconnect AC power which I did by setting the circuit breaker to off. I then removed the bottom screw that holds the ice maker in place. I then loosened the 2 top screws so the ice maker could be lifted out. The only trouble I had was that I couldn't see one of the screws because there was not enough room to get my head inside the refrigerator. However, by noting the position of the bracket and screw of the one I could see, I was able to get the nut driver on the 2nd screw by feel. I then was able to remove the ice maker from the brackets but still had to remove the electrical connector. I had some trouble trying to unlatch the connector. I figured out what needed to be done by examining the connector on the new ice maker. After disconnecting the connector, the ice maker came out with no problem. I then reversed the steps to install the new ice maker with no problems. Although there is a note on the new ice maker that it could take up to 72 hours before ice cubes would be made, the first ice cubes appeared within about 3 hours. All in all, it was a relatively simple repair that most anyone could do. I should note that PartSelect has an online video that shows exactly the procedure (I had watched it when I placed the order but forgot the exact procedure for unlatching the connector). PartSelect made it easy to get the correct part and I figure I saved myself a lot of money by doing the work myself.

First decision was to deduce whether the solonoid that turns off and on the water to the ice maker was working. The water was working on the door so I gambled that the solonoid was working and ordered a new ice maker (correct decision). Second decision was whether to fix the ice maker or buy a new one. Buying the entire new ice maker was less expensive than the parts. In addition, the old ice maker was 15 years old so I decided to replace the entire ice maker. Ordering it was super easy and it arrived the next day! I watched the entire installation movie on the web and thought it would be a straight shoot but it wasn't. None of the wire harnesses that came with the new ice maker fit the old connector so I had to remove the old harness and install it on the new machine. Then I had to take the mounting bracket off of both the old and new ice makers and interchange them so it fit in the threaded holes in my refrigerator wall. Not difficult work - I advise to not throw out parts until all is operational. It worked on the first try! It was a relatively pleasant experience.

It was very simple outside of being in a confined area. I loosened the top two screws and removed the bottom screw and removed the old icemaker. Once removed I could see the surface was delaminated. I repositioned the replacement part, put the screw in to hold the bottom and tightened the two screws at the top. My daughter was amazed that I was able to do it without and expletives!!!

Un plugged the refrigerator. Didn't cut water off. Took bottom screw out with phillips screw driver. Took top two screws out with socket set. Un plugged wiring harness, plugged the new one in. Replaced the 3 screws, took cut off bar off the old ice maker and put it on the new one. Plugged the frig back in and had ice in about an hour.

Visually compared the new ice maker to the old one to make sure they were the same style. Unplugged the refrigerator and put the freezer contents in a cooler. Removed the old ice maker by removing three screws with a nut driver. Removed the small cover plate on the inside back wall of the freezer to access the wiring plug for the ice maker. Unplugged the old ice maker and compared the plug on the new ice maker wiring to the old one to make sure the correct wiring was installed on the new ice maker. Plugged the new ice maker into the wiring coming out of the back of the freezer and replaced the cover plate. Positioned the new ice maker and installed the new ice maker USING THE OLD SCREWS. The new ice maker does not include new screws. Looked at the old ice maker to see how the trip rod was installed and then installed the new trip rod on the new ice maker. Installing the trip rod before installing the ice maker might have been easier but it was not hard once I saw how it was installed on the old one. Plugged in the refrigerator and replaced the contents after the ice maker cycled once. No more leaks and the ice maker is working great.

Removed old icemaker, found replacement on Partselect - installed new icemaker. Very easy repair, parts fit perfectly.

Turned off water, removed 3 screws, unplugged old unit and reversed the process with new unit. Making ice after about 8 hours...

Exactly as the instructions explained it. The part was easy to remove, three screws and the old one was out. Replace the shut off arm as instructed because the new piece didn't come with the wire arm, the old one fits perfectly. The wiring that came was an exact fit for my fridge. Plugged it in, replaced the unit with the three screws and 24 hours later we had a full ice bin.

Troubleshot to the icemaker as per the troubleshooting guide that came with the refrigerator. Could not initiate a harvest cycle by jumping the appropriate test ports on the drive side of the ice maker. Verified the proper voltage was present with a DVM. Ordered new ice maker, really easy on-line with PartSelect interface. Installed new unit in about 5 minutes and the unit dropped the first batch of ice about 2 hours later. Works great!

Received replacement icemaker via ups. Opened box - three screws and disconnect cable. Old icemaker came out. New one - connected cable three screws and done.

followed instuction on internet site. No problem

Removed screws holding icemaker in place.
Unpluged the control wiring.
Installed new ice maker and pluged module back in.
Worked great and saved alot of money.

Three screws, two of the screws were hard to get to, can't see them, had to work by guessing somewhat. Very little space to work in. Done in 30-minutes???

Replaced complete icemaker. Turn off power or you will get shocked removing old icemaker. Used mirror to see screw to loosen for removal. Decided to replace complete icemaker due to age and leaking ploblem looked like tray area detereated.

Replaced ice maker with new one but found it was not the ice maker at all. There was an accumulation of ice in the duct inhibiting the flow of cld air to the ice maker. I cleared the ic build up in the duct and it has been working just fine. But am concerned about make up water leaking into the duct.
