LE8457W2-PLE8457W2 Whirlpool Dryer - Instructions

Removed 2 screws on the bottom of front panel of dryer & pulled it off. Next I got down & looked to the back & bottom inside of the dryer. I spyed the heating element,I pulled off the two wires from the thermostats[ orange & black. I removed two screws from the heating element plate & dropped it down & removed it from the dryer. Reverse procedure to reinstall. Will see if we can get another 10 years service out of it.

removed drum and motor and installed new parts. Very fast service on parts. Well be back if needed.

I dismantled the dryer and replaced the thermostat and the heating element. The online videos are excellent. Thanks

once I found where the heat element was, it took me a few mintues to remove the bad one and replace it with the new one that came before the due date. very good instruction in kit. Be sure and leave the old one hooked up until the new unit comes in so you can do a easy exchange of the wiring.

lift the top took out 6 screws out ramoved front and drum out. vacaum every thing out replace idler and belt.easy to do.

Basically, Followed the instructions in the Video for Belt replacement. I found out however that the Tensioner was also broken aand needed replacement, and this required the snap wring pliers. also spindle on motor was stripped and had to use "lockTite" to repair that. Overall was far better "doining it myself" than paying for repai service which would have cost several hundred $ in costs. This increased my confidence level to know that as long as parts are available I will always be able to repair this appliance!

The first time, I inserted the belt the wrong way. The drum turns a little bit then stops. The manufacturer does not give any instructions or drawings on their website on that particular model, only drawing of parts.I called the technical support department and they told me to call different telephone numbers in my area and repair technicians. Still no schematic and instructions.
The solution: I took the broken belt, put around the drum, measured it, the remaining slack, did some trial and error around the motor axle and the pulley.
Placed a 2 X 4 piece of wood to hold the tension of the pulley. With the belt around the drum, carefully inserted the drum downward. placed the belt starting from the left side of the drum to the bottom of the motor axle, around it then to the bottom of the tension pulley, then towards the right side of the drum.
Lift the drum to its proper position, horizontal. Remove the piece of wood. Turn the drum manually so it moves freely. check the belt moving around the axle and the pulley. Install back the panels and screws tightened. Test and observe a few drying runs.

This would be an easy job, if I were to do it again.

I needed to download a manual only to get ACCESS to the machine. Removing the outside lag bolts did NOT provide access.

They had hidden clips that were ENTIRELY invisible from the outside. I believe this was done deliberately, to prevent those who don't know the specifics about this machine from gaining access.

It's an easy job, once you know the idiosyncracies of the construction of the machine. It's a major pain in the ass if you don't, even if you are used to replacing belts in other dryers.

Having done it once, the next time I could do it in under 20% of the time it took me the first time.

I unplugged the power started taking the housing apart it was all exploratory to me as it has been many years since I worked on one. Pry the top front up with a screw driver remove two screws at the top front and two hold down brackets at the top rear flip the top onto some boxes stacked up in back of the dryer. took digital pictures of 2 sets of wires in the front and disconnected them pulled the front panel up off the 2 holding clips swung it out to the right . Removed the 4 screws holding the hub on and removed it slid the drum off the felt pad ( after I put an arrow on it with a marker) and out of the housing. Now comes my dilemma the idler lever shaft was totally screwed up and the belt was laying on the floor of the dryer housing so I had know reference to how the new one should look or the pattern of the belt. I ordered the new pulley from part select .com but it would not take my credit card so I called their 888 # it turned out their service is out of canada and my card was not good out of the states so I used a different visa I received the part in 1 day however it does not come with any directions so I referred to other repair stories on their website but everyone their had their old ones in tact to refer to. I put it back on as best as I could figure but the belt pattern was my new problem every way I tried the belt was to loose I figured the belt must have streched I measured it and it seemed a little long so I ordered a new one again the part came in 1 day. But again no directions came with it. I went back to the partselect.com hoping to find a diagram but no luck there. I found another website with six diagrams to choose from picked the one that seemed most logically to work. I put it all back together and it works. It makes a repetitive clunking noise like it has a half a pair of sneakers in it but it seems to run alright. Its only 2 years old and my freinds told me buy a Maytag and I won't need the extended warranty Yeah right Live and learn

removed bottom panel.Has 2 screws on bottom.take belt off of idler. take 2 screws out of motor base.turn motor sideways& remove bolt from arm that holds idler. remove snapring holding idler. replace pully & reassemble in reverse. Thank You Partselect for prompt shipping. A+ Rating

Leaned machine back and put blocking under machine to elevate. Removed two screws from front of bottom panel. Lift panel out and set aside. Next remove two bottom screws from door frame. Pull bottom of frame out and up to release. Remove wire clips from door light and switch. Set door frame aside. Inside drum, take three phillips head screws out, that hold filter frame in, remove filter frame. Next remove four front screws on drum alignment face plate. Set aside. Grasp drum and pull forward, off back guide rollers. Drum will drop down a little, reach in around drum and slide belt off. Remember to look in under drum to see proper placement of belt aroun motor shaft and idler pulley. Replace new belt around drum with ribs against drum. Route belt around motor shaft pulley, pull idler pulley toward motor and place belt around pulley smooth top runs against pulley. Reinstall everything you removed. Connect wires to door.

I began by disassembling the dryer to diagnose the problem. I discovered the belt had been riding on a section of a broken idler pulley as well as wearing a groove into the idler pulley bracket. I removed the broken parts and went to the Internet for replacement parts. Three days later the parts arrived and I began reassembly. I found it a little difficult to replace the drum with the belt in position but found it much easier to recruit some assistance during this phase. Another factor with the difficulty was that I hadn't paid real close attention to the webbing direction of the belt around the pulley and there were no diagrams depicting the proper direction of the new belt. I did figure it out relatively quickly but would advise paying very close attention to parts positioning during disassembly.
