8440A REV C Norge Dryer - Instructions

DISCONNECT THE POWER. Double check the dryer is unplugged. Use a putty knife to free the latches holding the top of the dryer in place. Lift up the top of the dryer and secure it in place (be sure it's safely held open and won't come crashing down onto yourself as you work). Remove the two screws on the inside and near the top of the dryer, which hold the front and side panels. Gently lift up on the front panel (it may help to open the dryer door to get a better grip). Once free from the bottom clips, carefully rotate the front panel so that the door sensor wires are not strained. Once the front panel is out of the way, grab the drum and firmly lift it up and away from the back. (The drum has rollers and ridges at the rear and you'll need to pull the drum out of its "track"). Slide the new belt around the drum and position the drum about halfway inside the dryer. Loop the belt around the motor, but not the tensioner, (it will be easier to install the drum if you wait to tension the belt). With the belt around the motor, gently slide the drum back keeping the belt around the motor pulley. Press and guide the drum back onto the rollers at the rear. Check the belt is positioned correctly around the drum and motor. Reach back from the front and loop the belt around the tensioner. Rotate the drum by hand and make sure the belt is aligned and the drum spins smoothly. Position the front panel and slide it onto the lower clips. Install the screws being very careful not to drop them into the abyss... Close the lid and plug in the power.

Watched a video and went to town taking it apart. I stuck a pop can under the barrel to hold it up while I worked on pulleys. My dryer does not have a plastic pulley but a metal tension bar with a hole in the middle. Ran upstairs and watched a different video with my set up and all was good. 5 min of work 5 min watching Youtube and 5 min cleaning all the lint out of the machine. I am actually glad the old belt broke because some of the lint was in a clump and had scorch marks on it. I took the shop vac to every part of the cabinet and shoved it down the lint trap sleeve also.

Once I realized it was just a drum belt and how easy it was to fix, I ordered the belt myself with no help from a national warehouse hardware chain where the manager said "I don't have a belt but I can sell you a dryer." Thank you I kept my 300+ dollars and once I got the belt it only required removing the two screws that sealed the lint screen cannel to the top; popping the top, removing the to nutbolts fastening the front to the side panels; slidding the front panel out; putting the belt around the drum and attaching it properly to the tension pully and motor. Finally, I closed it up and tested it. Household hero in less than 12 minutes! Not bad for a psychologist, eh?

First unplug the machine and turn off the gas. Then, I pried the top up (2 clamps on front, 2 screws to the lint screen). Then I removed 2 5/16 nuts that fastened front panel to sides. I held the drum and pried the front panel back while my wife slipped the new belt around the drum. Then, I buttoned everything back up in reverse order, removed the kick panel, threaded the belt through the tensioner pulley and around the motor shaft. It's really that easy. My Dearest One removed the screws that held the part that covers the bulb; removed the old bulb, put in the new bulb and replaced the cover.

I took the top of the drier off by remoing two screws in back of drier. I also removed the two screws in the lint trap. Tnen i pushed the top in a little and lifted up the lidand leaned it on a 4x4 so it would not pull out the electrical wires, I then took the front of the drier off by removing the 2 screws from the inside of the drier. I held the drum up so it would not fall After pulling the front off, i put it to the side and stood the front panel up so I could take the drum off and put the replacement belt around the drum. I thenputh the drum back in the same place and pulled the belt thru the Idle pully and wrapped it arond the motor pulley. While you are putting on the belt, either cut a small 4x4 or have someone hold the drum up. Then put the front panel and the top back on. This was made easy by reading another repair story. Unplugged the dryer. Released the two forward sping clips holding the top in place and hinged it open. Removed the two 1/4" screws(one on each upper edge of front panel). Disconnected the door switch. Pulled out and up to remove the front panel. Located the cycling thermostat on the blower housing. Disconnected the thermostat wires, removed the (2) 1/4" screws. Installed the new thermostat and assembled in reverse order.

I followed instructions here on this site, and repaired the dryer with ease. More details in other posts but it pretty much went like this:
1) take out screws under lint thing, lift top
2) take out two INSIDE bolts in the top of the dryer (5/16" socket), disconnect wires, lift then set aside front
3) clean everything out, set dryer on it's back.
4) wrap belt around the tub (rubber facing the tub), and then loop it through the tensioner (which will have fallen out of place, but you can see from the wear where it goes). Note it loops through the tensioner then over the motor wheel, and then back through the tensioner. Took me a little while to figure that out. (put tensioner in place before doing the looping through)
5) put it all back together.
Very satisfying to have it all work again!

First I removed screws in lint tray, then opened up top of dryer and removed screms on side- removed front of dryer, put on new belt through idler pulley onto motor, then reassembled dryer. Really easy job and this was my first time working on an appliance

First of all let me begin by telling you that this was my first D-I-Y project. The dryer had been out for over a month and the clothesline drying of clothes, while being energy efficient, did not go well because it was the summer/fall borderline and the ants and bugs were inside the clothes which were brought into the house.

I googled my problem and soon enough there were a ton of helpful sites available offering solutions to my problem. So, after I decided to do it myself, I ordered a new belt from part-select. Once the belt arrived, I went back to for help. There was an extremely useful video among the results. The whole thing took me about 20 minutes as I was doing it all by myself. I followed the steps and was able to replace the dryer belt very easily and I am so very thankful to have a working dryer again before the onset of rain and cold!

Lift top of dryer. Remove two 1/4" screws that hold the front panel. Disconnect the two wires on the door switch. Lift front panel to remove. Lift drum enough to install the new belt. Reach in to place the belt on the motor and tension pulley. Replace the front panel. check for free rotation of the drum and belt. Close top. Done.

When the dryer drum stopped tumbling, I followed the instructions on PartsSelect to remove pop the top of the dryer and then remove the screws to remove the front panel. Then I could see the broken belt underneath the drum.

I did pull out the drum itself to get a better look at the motor and pulley to see where the new belt would need to go. I replaced the drum by pushing it back and then rotating it so it would fit back into the groove on the rear panel.

Once I received the new belt, I followed the steps included with the belt package to loop the new belt around the drum and then thread it over the pulley and around the motor.

The entire repair was very easy and so much cheaper than buying a new dryer.

First I removed the back panel (and found out later when I received the belt from Partselect.com, that this was unnecessary). I followed the instructions that came with the belt and removed the top panel and then the front panel. I placed a piece of wood under the drum for support so that it would not be just hanging from the back. Then I found the broken belt lying on the bottom, and a pulley that was unhinged. I replaced the pulley following the instructions, and vacuumed the motor and all around. I put the new belt around the drum and then through the pulley and onto the motor axle. I replaced all the panels and the dryer is now working like new.

First I had to find my way into unit . I took out screws that didn't have to come out, but eventually I found my way in. I took out the drum put the belt over it and through the tightener then over the motor pulley. I then put the sheet metal back on and the job was done.
