My last phase of repairs of minor items.
if your unit has over 6,000 hours of operations, one needs to remove the front panel and inspect the sliders that the drum rides on. The video were very helpful to replace the sliders. Unfortunately, my dryer had over 10,000 hours of operations over a 30 years period, hence a major repair costing over $200.00 dollars. The drum sliders were gone, hence the drum eat through the plastic guides. More so, the drum started to eat away the front panel. If the dryer is eating your closes and making a noise, one is looking at a $200.00 repair job. Hence check the sliders early will save one $$$$.

Timer in Timed Dry cycle stopped at 50 minutes.
Unplugged dryer from wall.Removed 3 screws from the back that held the front face plate on. Pulled face plate away and to the right to release it from the dryer. Lifted the locking tab slightly and turned the old timer counter clockwise to remove. One at a time I removed a wire and connected it to the new timer. Installed new timer to the back of the face plate. Pushed on timer knob so I could hold the back of the timer to get it all the way on to the shaft. Lined up the three tabs at the bottom of the face place and slid it to the left , pushed the face face into place and secured it with the 3 screws. Plug Dryer back in. Done in less than 10 minutes. Dryer now works properly again. I know I saved myself a lot of money doing the repair my self.

Control knob spinning, could not get dryer to run.
My husband and I are the least repair-oriented people in the world. We can, however, follow instructions.

We were seriously trying to decide whether to call a repairperson or buy a new dryer, since dryer is over 5 years old, and it does not seem that appliances last any more. (New dryer: probably over $700)

Read about issue on PartSelect. Found clear and easy to follow explanations. Thought we needed a new timer, and considered buying one. Installation instructions seemed clear and simple enough for even us to do. Pulled off old timer knob to discover the back was cracked, which was why it was spinning.

Bought control knob. Pushed it on. Perfect!
Total time for repair: about 10 seconds
Total cost (including shipping) about $33

Bad dryer motor
Replaced dryer motor which was a perfect fit thanks to your help. The process was helped by the internet videos available for the step by step procedure of taking the dryer apart and replacing the bad motor. I also was able to completely clean the inside of the dryer thoroughly, and reassemble it back together .
