no heat but otherwise ran fine
I used the posts on the site to ascertain the problem (fuze or element burnt out). The pictures were very helpful. I pulled the dryer to the floor and using my meter checked both the fuze and the element. The electrical diagrams were very helpful also. I took the dryer apart further to make sure the coil was indeed the problem. I then ordered the part!

Dryer wouldn't heat
Removed obvious screws to the vent etc. Then had a little trouble getting the cabinet open. My only problem was getting the front top panel off. A clip about 2" from either side at the top needs to be pushed in with a flat head screwdriver to release the top. Other than that the task was pretty straight forward. Two sets of wires to the heater itself. Used pliers to help pull them loose.

Wife went on vacation and I broke the timer knob on the dryer the first time I used it!
I opened the envelope that was waiting on the porch when I got home from work, opened it up, and pushed it on the shaft. It fit like a glove and looks more durable than the old one was. She'll never know I broke it. :)

Broken knob
Pulled old knob off and replaced with new knob. The hardest part of the repair was finding the part and partselect made that easy as well.

timer knob would not turn correctly to set time
I had my landscape guy, who volunteered to look at the dryer since he's also an electrician, come in and take a quick look. he turned the knob, pulled it off and told me the inside was cracked so it would not grab the turn mechanism. Who knew? I got the model number from the dryer door, checked in on the internet for Fridgedaire parts, found Partselect.com, ordered part, came next day, knob fits, dryer works. end of story. THANK U!!!

Squeaking noise as the drum turned
I love technology. First thing I did was google on "U-tube", "How to repair a squeaking dryer". Several videos out there so I just found the one I needed and watched. The repair itself went easy. A word of advice would be to be careful of sharp edges and to remember to unplug the machine prior to repair. While the drum is out, go ahead and get your shop vac and clean the inside of the unit out. Also, not only put grease on the new plastic holder, but put some on the shaft of the idler puller. I also used an awl to line up the holes on the front panel when re-installing the screws. One video I watched showed reaching in through the front to take the drum belt off the pulley, where another showed removing the inspection plate on the back. This made it much easier.

Dryer heated up but drum would not turn
The dryer was heating but the drum would not turn. We opened it up to see what the problem was. As soon as we opened it, we saw the belt was broken. I ordered a new one and after two trips to the laundromat I was ready to get the dryer fixed. That weekend we tackled the job. First I did a Google Search on Westinghouse dryer repair, found several ....one with a video:-) Punched in our model number and they went through the whole procedure....while it took them only 10 minutes, we took a little longer. But they had great ideas how to hold the drum while repairing, etc. Being recently laid-off this was a fantastic find. I have no idea how much a service call would be on the dryer nor could I afford a new one at this time.... Great old American Know How got it done.
