WDT530HAMM0 Whirlpool Dishwasher - Instructions

I only need to replace a piece of plastic that attach to spring hook up to dishwasher door, so I only utilized one part from the kit.

1. Removing the dishwasher from counter-top by unscrewed two screws.

2. Slide out the dishwasher out from counter-top space.

3. Took out the broken plastic part, and hook spring to new part.

4. Using plier to pull spring and attach the plastic part to the door.

5. Testing that the door is working okay, push the washer back in place and screw to secure.

Removed the two screws securing the lower access cover below dishwasher door and removed two upper mounting screws securing dishwasher to countertop. Grasped dishwasher near front feet and slid unit out of encloser approximately 12-14 inches. Removed broken balance link cable from attachment point on dishwaher door and from the balance spring. Removed existing balance link pulley/guide assembly from side of dishwasher frame and replaced with new assembly. Connected balance link cable to balance spring, then strung/wrapped new cable through and over pulley/guide and connected cable end to mounting connection on door frame. Completed same process for opposite side of dishwasher. Pushed/slid dishwaher back in to its original position, re-attached the two counter to dishwasher screws and finally reposition the lower front acess panel and secured it with the two screws previously removed.

Removed the two screws on top and slid the unit out until the spring area was exposed relaced the part and slid back in, it was so easy. The part needed came in a set so I now have a spare. Your rep was so helpful in identifying the needed part for me and the whole expense of parts and shipping was half of what a service call to identify the problem would have been, say nothing of what they would have charged for the part and installation. Thank you I am a lifelong customer now.

Unscrewed the brackets at top of frame to pull the dishwasher out. Hooked the spring back through the hole in the rear housing, hooked the front plastic piece to the door, wrapped the cord around the pulley wheels, streched the spring with a pair of pliers and hooked the other end of plastic to the spring. Very easy. While working also oiled the door.

Removed 2 screws that attaches dishwasher to countertop. Turned off water, disconnected hose, pulled out dishwasher. Replaced plastic pulley system. Pushed dishwasher back, replaced hose, turned water on, replaced 2 screws. Job complete.

I got the parts, and looked at them and figured, so I called a repair guy, took him less than 10 minutes.

Removed screws securing dishwasher to countertop, slid dishwasher out to expose door balance system, replaced broken link and reinstalled dishwasher.

The kit came with two new cords and two new re-designed pulleys that should make this problem not happen again. I am really glad I used the kit. My local parts house wanted $25 for just one cord. For less money, I was able to repair both sides with cords and replace the original pulleys that caused the failure in the first place!

I was fortunate that the original installation left enough slack for supply, drain, and electrical so that I could pull the DW out about a foot beyond the cabinets. This gave me plenty of room.

I took off bottom panel, unscrewed from the counter. Next I pulled dishwasher out from under counter. the cable on oneside of door was broken.
Took off old part, hooked one end of new part to spring,hooked spring to hole and put other end of new part on hook where it belonged.

I looked online at reviews for my model #, then followed the steps other had outlined.
1. I took off the base plate
2. slowly pulled out the unit being mindful of the electric chord and water line. It needed to come out a full 12 inches
3. Viewed the side where the tension line was working
4. Matched the broken side the same way as the working side
5. reversed everything back into place
The door balance link kit comes with 2 parts so I saved one in case the other side breaks.

Removed the bottom cover with the nut driver. Removed the two screws attaching the top of the dishwasher to the underside of the cabinet. With the wrench lowered the front of the dishwasher so that it would slide out of the cabinet. Once out the balance cables could be seen and were replaced. Attach the cable to the door, feed it around the new and improved bracket (part of the kit), attach to the spring and then attach the spring to the back of the lower rail. Repeat on the other side. Reinstall the dishwasher. This took longer than all the rest of the job due to the poor work done by the home builder's plumber in the original install. Replace the front cover and sound shield. All and all very easy.

Pulled out dishwasher. Found cord broken on one side. Replaced cord and other parts that came in kit. Replaced balance parts on both sides of door. Pushed dishwasher back in place. Door now opens and closes like new.

Simple repair, detached 2 top screws and slid unit out far enough to access the rear springs, removed old balance kit and installed new. The replacement parts appear to have corrected some deficiencies in the OEM version and the instructional video made changeover easy. As an extra bonus, annoying long-term door squeak is history.

Identified first that the Door Balance Link Kit was required as opposed to a new spring - the springs are nearly indestructible, I don't see how the spring would ever fail before the link kit. The hardest part was sliding the dishwasher out - nut driver to remove the lower panel, removed the insulation under the dishwasher, then found the two plastic screw covers in the door frame. Under the screw covers are screws to attach to the cabinet frame - your installation may be different. Then I slid out the dishwasher.

The link kit consists of two roller assemblies and two links - basically a nylonish cable with a plastic eye-hook on one end and a longer hollow-rectangle kind of attachment on the other. I only used the links (the cable parts) for this repair.

Swapping the link kit took 2 minutes. Hook the spring on the frame that is parallel to the dishwasher front, attach the eye-hook to the spring, push the cord into the pulley system, and pull on the link with the spring to get the rectangular hook to loop over the door hook.

Sliding the dishwasher out and putting it back in took much longer than the actual part replacement, but it was still a quick repair. And now the door doesn't even squeak when it opens!

Removed dishwasher and connected the new link to spring and door arm. Reinstalled machine.
