How to Fix a Pulley for a Washer That Has Spinning Issues
If your washer isn't spinning properly, it may be an issue with its pulley(s). Look for signs of burning, wear, damage, buildups of grease, dirt, or other materials. Cleaning anything you find off the pulley and the surrounding area if you do find any of those things. If you find any signs of damage, you will need a replacement pulley. Defective pulleys and belts can cause burning smells or squealing noises and may result in the machine not spinning at all.
What is a Pulley?
On belt-driven washing machines, the motor pulley supports the drive belt and in some cases the pump belt. There will also be corresponding pulleys on the transmission and the pump. The idler pulley is also known as a tension pulley. Some models of top-load washers utilize an idler pulley assembly to provide tension on the drive or pump belt. These different parts all work together to ensure that the washer drum spins smoothly.
Where are the Pulleys Located?
The motor pulley is found below the base of the drive motor, which is located at the bottom of your washing machine. The idler pulley is also found at the bottom of the washer, connected to the drive belt.
