How to Fix a Basket Drive Hub for a Washer That Has Spinning Issues

If your washer is not spinning, it may be due to a problem with the basket drive. The basket drive hub works with other parts in your washer to allow it to spin. It is prone to general wear and tear and will likely need to be replaced if it is no longer functioning well. Our expert guide will give you step-by-step instructions on how to find and inspect the basket drive hub. Once you have established that the basket drive hub is at fault, you will be able to determine whether you can fix it or will need to replace it. If you need a replacement basket drive hub, we will show you how to install a replacement part and restore your washer to full working condition.

What is a Basket Drive Hub?

A basket drive hub is used to connect the washer basket to the transmission shaft in order to allow the basket to spin. If the hub has become worn, it can result in your washer not spinning and will need to be replaced.

Where is the Basket Drive Hub Located?

The basket drive is found underneath the agitator, sitting on top of the transmission shaft.

  3. Once the agitator is removed, remove the screws holding the basket drive hub in place.

How to Test a Basket Drive Hub

If your basket drive hub is visibly worn-out or damaged, it will need to be replaced.

How to Install a New Basket Drive Hub

  1. Line up the new basket drive hub and push it onto the drive shaft.
  2. Align it so that the screw holes are lined up and drill the screws in place.
  3. If applicable for your model, insert the fork and tap it into place with a hammer.
  4. The agitator can now be reinstalled and any other pieces on your washer reassembled. Now your repair is complete!
