Friction Ring

This is a metal friction ring, sold individually and used in impact wrenches as part of the anvil assembly. It measures roughly 3/8-Inches. When the socket is installed, the ring is compressed, and the tension that is created is what holds the socket securely in place. Over the lifetime of the tool, the ring can compress too small, and it will no longer fit properly in the socket, and will need to be replaced. For this repair you will need a pick to pry off the friction ring, a pair of needle nose pliers, retaining ring pliers, and a small screwdriver.

O-ring

This O-ring is attached to the anvil and backs up the tension ring. The O-ring minimizes how much the tension ring can compress when a socket is installed.
