Friction Ring

This is a metal friction ring, sold individually and used in impact wrenches as part of the anvil assembly. It measures roughly 3/8-Inches. When the socket is installed, the ring is compressed, and the tension that is created is what holds the socket securely in place. Over the lifetime of the tool, the ring can compress too small, and it will no longer fit properly in the socket, and will need to be replaced. For this repair you will need a pick to pry off the friction ring, a pair of needle nose pliers, retaining ring pliers, and a small screwdriver.

Retaining Ring - Ext

This external retaining ring, also known as a snap ring or circlip, is supplied by the original manufacturer for use in impact drivers. It helps to secure the collar in the front housing assembly. It should be replaced if it is lost, damaged, or no longer able to remain securely attached. To replace the retaining ring, disassemble the front housing assembly and pull out the ring. Position the new ring in its place and reassemble the housing. Each retaining ring is sold individually.

O-ring

This O-ring is attached to the anvil and backs up the tension ring. The O-ring minimizes how much the tension ring can compress when a socket is installed. O-rings are common wear parts that tend to harden and deteriorate over time due to their rubber material. A sign that this O-ring needs to be replaced is if the socket is no longer being held properly on the anvil. This manufacturer-approved part is sold individually.
