This is a genuine Dewalt replacement part, it is sold individually. Worn brushes are often the cause of a poorly running motor • Replacing brushes can fix an intermittent motor • New brushes can restore a motor's electric braking Carbon motor brushes are one of the most commonly replaced power tool components. Because carbon brushes are wear items, meaning that through friction and use they will gradually wear away, they will eventually require replacement. Worn brushes are common causes of intermittent motor function, reduced electric braking, and reduced motor power. A worn out brush will often be worn down near the wire lead and may be cracked, pitted, or burned. When replacing carbon brushes, be sure to also inspect your armature for burns, cracks, or other damage which indicates a larger motor problem.

This is a brush and spring for your power tools. This brush is sold individually, and two are needed for most power tools. We recommend replacing both brushes together for an even wear. When your brush wears down it will greatly affect your motor function by reducing the power and electric braking. When making this repair we recommend inspecting the armature for cracks or visible damage that would mean other motor problems. Carbon brushes are the most commonly replaced power tool part. This part is meant to wear out over time through the constant contact.

This is a brush spring and it is used in a variety of power tools. The spring applies force to the motor brush inside the motor. This will keep the brush tight along the armature. If the brush has worn down it will create heat, and the spring will lose tension. If this happens, both parts will have to be replaced.

This part includes one carbon brush. Your tool will require two of these, and they should be replaced at the same time. Worn carbon brushes are the most likely reason that a motor is not performing as it should. The function of the carbon brushes are to conduct electricity to the armature. This is done through the commutator. Carbon brushes are constantly rubbing against the spinning commutator, and this is why they wear over time. For this simple repair, start by removing the motor cap. To replace the brush, remove the wire lead and tension spring, and pull the brush from the holder. To install the brush, place it into the holder, place the tension spring on the rear of the brush and reinstall the wire lead. The same thing will need to be done on the other side.
