The most common reason for replacing the flexible drive shaft is if the trimmer head is not spinning and makes noise, the engine idles but the head won't move when throttled, the driveshaft ends are stripped or the flexible cable is kinked or broken. This part is sold individually. Here is a list of tools that are needed to replace the flexible drive shaft a pick or small screwdriver, Phillip's screwdriver ,split-ring pliers ,long-nosed pliers, rubber mallet, wrenches and/or socket set, wheel & chassis grease , and a retainer replacement tool (or a metal tube or pipe that is slightly larger in diameter than the bushing housing drive shaft).
