Igniters won't stop clicking
I unplugged stovetop, shut off the gas at the valve, unhook the gas line and unscrewed the two thumb screws that hold the stovetop in place from under the counter. I then lifted the unit out and placed it on the countertop on a pad. Careful of the gas regulator: I set mine next to the sink so the gas regulator could be over the sink whi le the unit sat flat on the top. I lifted off the burner caps and the port rings and unscrewed the nut holding the simmer ring to the venturi. I then unscrewed the ventures and removed them and the burner bases. As I lifted the burner bases, unfastened the igniter wires carefully so as to not damage the igniters. With all this off, I could then lift the cooktop and unfasten the pilot lights, carefully as, I found, the light tubes break easily. I now removed the stainless steel cooktop. One venturi was damaged in removal along with the gas main jet holder which it screws into and the main gas tube which attaches to it and the valve. These repairs to the burner assembly wouldn't have been necessary had the nuts and the venturi not been frozen in place by years of use of caustic cleaning materials that caused them to oxidize. With the cooktop removed, I had access to the igniter switches of which one needed replacing. I was lucky; I had guessed that only the one igniter switch was bad that caused all the igniters to continue to click when that burner was used. Once the one igniter switch was replaced, I reversed all the steps and checked the result after the unit was back together. I plugged it back in and my clicking problem was solved. I unplugged it again and put the unit back in the countertop, re-secured the thumbscrews, re-attached the gas line, opened the valve and checked for gas leaks and am back in business. It actually would have been relatively easy had the burner damage not been part of the repair and accessing and replacing the igniter switch had been the only problem. Probably only a 1 hour process. Good luck.
