flame starter quit sparking
Replaced battery with no improvement. Replaced with a new part: Unit is held in place by one plastic nut. Removed nut and five electric leads from old unit. Connected leads to new unit, and secured it in place with the provided plastic nut, put in a fresh AA battery and ran test. All five burners flamed immediately. Total time: less than ten minutes.

Reattached wires to new module, put in new battery.
