I determined that it must be the Defrost Adaptive Control by elimination. I had already replaced the defrost thermostat. Since the problem was intermittent i decided the control board was the culprit. My fridge is a Kenmore "french door" style with a bottom freezer. I'm told it is made by Amana. Unplug or kill the power to the refrigerato r. The board is located on top of the fridge section. 2 phillips head screws will remove the center top door closing guide. After that all the parts are snap off fasteners. Pull off the light cover and damper cover (to the rear of the fridge). Pull down the front of the light module assembly and pull it out. don't try to remove the light housing from the light module. The board is located on top of the light module in a plastic box. Open the box unplug the old board plug in the new and reverse the process. The temperature control knob is on a slotted belt. Loosen the tensioner to get the belt back in place an retension. The disassembly and reassembly is not hard but I find the snap fasteners a little nerve racking. I'm afraid they will break, but it seems to work.
