My dishwasher had quit running and lights on the control panel were flashing that should not have been.
My first mistake was to call a repairman. He told me the control board would need to be replaced and the total repair would be in excess of $800. I told him thanks but no thanks but it still cost me $100 for his 30 minute visit. I started browsing on line to see what I could learn about replacing the control board (what I should have d one from the get go!). The website was most helpful in isolating the part I needed and once ordered had it to me on the 4th day. Installation was a breeze. After killing the power, I removed the screws holding on the front control panel. Then all I did was pull out the old board with wires in tact, removed each one from the old board and installed them exactly into the same location on the new board. Once complete I just snapped the new board in place and screwed the panel back onto the dishwasher. I did the reboot on the circuit board according to on line instructions and the dishwasher works like a champ.

Basically I did a search on You Tube for replacing electronic control board on Kitchen Aid dishwasher, watched the video. While my model was slightly different, the video was more than adequate to allow me to change out my board with minimal stress.
