Replacing the heat shield requires cutting the spark wire.
After a few years of use, the spark plug module that connects to the middle of the burner assembly will rust tight and won't come off.

To replace the heat shield, you need to remove the burner assembly, but that requires releasing the spark plug wire. Unfortunately, with the spark plug assembly rusted in place, your only opt ion is to cut the spark wire. This is best done in the middle of the wire underneath the grill.

Before replacing the heat shield, strip both loose ends of the spark wire and place some heat shrink tubing over the end that goes to the push button. Replace the heat shield and connect the burner assembly to the gas intake tubes.

Twist the ends of the spark wire together so that they make a good connection, bend the twisted wire back over the black part of the wire, move the heat shrink tubing over the joined area, then use a heat gun to shrink the tubing.

Connect the propane tank and test the grill.
