Grinding , drum flopping , .....Noise !
I won't go into all the details of the repairs .....The videos this company provides are A+++.. Some would say I would have been better off purchasing a New dryer ...LOL if I had to use a appliance repair man for this job ...Probably ...but ...using this site certified parts , and using the easy to follow instruction videos ....It was truly a very easy repair . I spent more time getting everything perfectly clean inside the dryer housing ,and letting the high temp adhesive cure than I did actually installing the parts.I can't recommend this company or the parts more ...Just take your time with removal , cleaning , and installation ....Patience !Excellent ...parts quality , shipping speed , and video installation instructions !!!! My dryer now works and SOUNDS like a new dryer ....Thank you !
dryer putting black streak marks on clothes and making a chaffing/grinding sound,
One of the metal drum guide brackets broke causing mis-alignment of drum, uneven guide wear and a noticeable chaffing/grinding sound, and after several months it began to eat up the felt drum/cylinder seal. Easily replaced both glide brackets and pads. Glued new felt seal on using 3 point c-clamp attachment to hold it in place while high temp adhesive cured. After minimal glue cure time reinstalled. Simple repair, lift top, unhook 5 wires remove 2 small hex head machine screws on inside and 4 on front, remove the 3 screws holding lint filter on assembly, and the 4 bracket screws. No part of the removal or installation process is complicated. Everything is very accessible with ease.
Turned off power, took off front panel where seal was. Used a putty knife to remove old seal. Cleaned surface with an abrasive and then acetone to get off old glue. Attached new seal with an adhesive that can handle high temperatures, clamped in place while drying (about one hour). Reassembled, let sit for a full day to let adhesive cure completely. Worked just fine.
After replacing the heating element and high limit fuse, I pulled the front cover to examine the felt cylinder seal. At this point I saw that a dryer sheet had entered the squirrel cage blower and completely conformed to the inner shape of the fan like a Melitta coffee filter. It had a half inch cylinder of lint packed into it like coffee grounds! Guess I didn't need those parts, but already installed so what the heck. Also made about $0.75 in loose change and three gameboy games that had been lost for a while.Best part of the job was vacuuming out all the lint before a fire started.
Variable SCREACHING sound that got gradually worse over a couple of weeks.
I used this excellent web site for the first time, querying by "sound symptoms". I ordered the four parts ranked most likely to be the culprit. I successfully changed all four, but unfortunately the problem persisted. So I ordered the next two ranked parts. VOILA! It was the Idler Lever. More specifically the pulley of the idler lever. Upon inspection of the old and new part, it was quite obvious the problem. The belt had worn a perfect groove, the width of the belt, into the pulley wheel. To the layman, the groove looked factory made, but it was not. I wish the web site suggested first to inspect the wheel for that condition before ordering any parts, but I'm still very impressed by this web site, especially the fact that you provide a start-to-finish installation video for EVERY individual part! Will definitely recommend you to friends!!
