Broken Belt
The belt had broken on the dryer and I had purchased a replacement locally. What I found after dissembling the dryer was the drum slides, idler pulley wheel and rear drum bearing were very worn and needed replaced. Each were very easy to remove and replace. Slight challenges were lining up the pulley, reseating the drum with the belt and solving the how the two (belt and pulley) were configured. It did require a second person. Note: Do not drop any parts into the dryer when reassembling. It will require you to start all over.

The drum stopped tumbling.
I'd done this job before - the dryer is over 40 years old, simple and reliable. After unplugging the unit, I removed the vent hose where connected to the lower rear panel with a screwdriver. Using the nut driver, I removed the seven or so screws holding the rear panel, then removed it. With a flashlight, I could see the broken pulley wheel. The drive belt was still in good condition, thankfully. I removed the eclip holding the remnents of the idler wheel and removed it. I cleaned up everything I could reach with a rag and vacuum, then slipped on the new wheel, the eclip, and reattached the drive belt. I plugged in the dryer and ran it for a while to check my work, then unplugged it. I reattached the bottom panel again, hooked up the dryer vent, and moved the dryer back into position. Plugged it in, and it was good to go. The directions that came with the part are very clear and easy to follow. I'd done this repair twice before.
