The water inlet valve supplies water to the dishwasher by opening and closing the solenoids attached to the valve, depending on the desired quantity of water. If your dishwasher is overfilling and leaking, or not filling with water at all, these may be signs that your valve is faulty. Other symptoms can include your dishes not cleaning properly, and the dishwasher not draining. You can check the inlet valve for continuity with a multimeter. It should show a reading between 500 - 1500 ohms if the valve is working and will read infinity if it is faulty. Another test is to open the dishwasher door while it is filling. If the tub continues to fill with water when the door is opened, the water inlet valve is defective and should be replaced.
