MHWE400WR01 Maytag Washer - Instructions

Somehow a bobby pin got into the drain pump housing. When it started to drain, the pin was rammed through the housing.Extremely easy to remove and replace. No special skills needed. Whirlpool did a good job in making it idiot proof. Unpacking the part took longer than installing it. Don't be afraid to do this repair. If you own a pair of pliers and a screwdriver,you can do it.

I romoved the front of the washer access panel. I then used the pliers to remove the clamps from the old hose and to replaceit with the new one.

First step was to remove old bellow. I opened the door there is a small wire with a spring attach that holds the outside of the bellow to thw washer. Then removed it from the water inlet, then took a short straight scewdriver to remove the gaint hose clamp holding it to the drum. Installed the new part. When putting hose clamp back on I removed the top of the washer by removing the three screws in the back then I flipped the hose clamp so I could use a long screwdiver from the top side.This will give you alot more room. Removed three mounting screws to the front access panel, removed panel, cleaned out drain trap, attempted to reset and drain washer, pump did not operate. Removed one wire harness to pump, two hose clamps and slipped pump assembly out of its mounting grommets, and installed new pump in reverse order. A sinch! And saved me approximately $150.00 bucks in repair service fees.

First and foremost, I usually call a real man to come do a job like this, but after reading the repair stories, I gave it a shot. Very, very easy. Pop of the bottom panel off (three torx screws), drain the water out of the tub (if any), and just follow the directions in the box. Anyone can do this one.

Overall, the install was easy.
Just a matter of getting yourself to get it done.
The video on the removal / install procedures was most helpful.
The front shocks were completed very quickly. The rear shock required all hoses to be disconnected and the back of the washer to be removed. After removing perhaps a dozen screws the cover was still fastened. You will see (in my case) 4 plastic flat clips. after they were removed the back came off. The rest of the project was the same as the front shocks. 1st time thru so to be expected.
Anyway, certainly a project that any DIYer can tackle.

Install new water valve. Cut water supply off and remove from back of washer. Remove 3 screws in the top panel from the back. Lift up about a inch and pull back. Comes right out. Set aside. Remove clamp from hose that secures hose to valve. Twist it to break contact and then work it off. Remove screw from the back that holds valve on. Pull up a little and remove wires/ connectors. Mark them or take a picture. Replace with new valve. Connect wires and push it into place. Easier if you put the screw back in that holds it. Put the hose and clamp back on. Put cover on and install the 3 screws. Hook up hoses, turn on water and call the wife. Lol

looked repair on you tube followed instructions. took off broken latch. compared to pictures on sites. ordered part. part arrived in 2 days. put part on. suggest using first method quick and easy.

Removed washer door from washer. Lay door on work bench (table). You need to remove screws from around most of the washer door to remove broken hinge. Install hinge into door frame. Fasten all screws for hinge and door frame. Reinstall complete door assembly onto washer with removed screws. Helpful to have some hold door for ease of alignment. Tools used: 1/4 inch torque #15 bit with 1/4inch nut driver.

Remove three screws holding the lower panel, the pump is right up front. Probably the hardest part was holding the hose clamps open while attaching the hoses to the pump housing. One screw holds the pump assembly in place. Hold the over-ride switch closed, check for leaks, and replace the loser panel.

Was able to remove old bellow without dis-assembly. Replacement required removing the front of the machine for access. Once the front was off, the bellow was simple to replace. Biggest difficulty is getting the top mark on the bellow lined up. It has a tendency to slip out of position while you are working the back of the bellow over the retaining lip and it is not possible to rotate the bellow after it is installed. Fortunately, the tube from the detergent tray can be rotated slightly to allow for a small amount of error. Replacing the front retaining wire and spring required three hands at one point, but was otherwise not a problem. Fortunately removal and replacement of the front of the machine is pretty straight forward. I needed to disconnect wires to set the front out of the way, but it is impossible to plug them back in incorrectly.

Just removed the bottom cover to access the water pump. Drained the water through the filter housing. One screw and two hose clamps and the pump was out. Installed new pump and checked for leaks. None found so the cover was secured in plase. Great news, WIFE is happy.

Followed the video on the website. Very easy to replace the part and it fixed the problem. The trickiest part was reinstalling the ring that holds the rubber gasket in place.

I removed the one screw that holds pun
mp in place. I pulled to the left and foward about an inch to remove hoses and unplug wire. then pulled pump assembly out. The new one went right in. The wire plug went right in without any customizing. I think this was about as easy as it gets.

simple repair. After reading other reviews my husband was confident he too could do the repair. He was right, we were so very glad not to have had to call for service.
