My son did the repair. Thank God for Sons who know how to repair things. Worst thing was figuring out how to get the back off, top where dials are had to come off too. the rest was easy according to him..

I followed the instructional video that referenced the water inlet valve. The steps I followed were identical to the video I watched. That was extremely helpful. The hardest part was removing the terminal wires that connected to the inlet valve, the rest was very easy. With the new valve installed the washer works exactly as it did before. This site is very helpful, thank you!

removed top panel and back panel
and then disconect the two wire fromm water inlet
fallow by removing screws.disconect water hose
then put back new part make sure i have all same conected as original put back panel top and back
conected hose for water back and electric .
then i turned 0n cold water perfect work hot water perfect warm perfect. problem fixed.

First - I saw the picture of the part on your site. It made all the difference.
Then, I turned off the water supply, unplugged the washer, removed the screws holding the backing plate on the washing machine to expose the valve.
After that, it was as easy as removing two mounting screws, disconnecting the solenoids (just two connections), pulling out the old valve and replacing it with the new.
Pretty simple and a lot less pricey when you can wait a few days for a part to come in the mail.

Followed the instructions on the Part Select video which were very clear. I removed control module from top of washer, pulled the washing machine outer housing forward slightly and disengaged the rear closure panel slightly. I disconnected the electrical harness and then I was then able to remove the existing inlet valve. The new valve was then installed and the precess reversed to complete the installation.

Piece of cake!! (The water comes pouring into the machine now)

i removed all screws for back of washer and removed top washer controls. then removed the valves and replaced with new one. reinstalled back in reverse order.really easy job. you just have to pay attention how you took it apart and study how it works , thanks!

I replaced the water inlet valve. First I watched a YouTube video on the repair; surprised to learn that you take the machine apart from the front, not the back.A few tips; pull the washer all the way out first; have extra tools in case you have the same problem as I did that the flathead screws holding the old valve on the back were too tight and had a shallow slot; it took several wrenches and pliers to get them turning. Do NOT forget to hook the internal hose back to the valve before reassembling the machine;and pay close attention to how the housing of the washer fits onto the frame, so that you can more easily put it back together. It would be helpful to have a second person for that step. All said, it was pretty easy to replace the part and I probably saved $200 and didn't have to sit around for a repairman.

Our washer's cold water flow became very slow. We were living with just hot water washing for about a month. I had used PartSelect in past and have always been very satisfied with the outcome. So, I went on the site and within a couple of minutes of navigating, had the part (water inlet valve with mounting plate) on order.

I watched the repair video on the water valve ordering page. My installation went pretty much to this procedure, with one exception, I had to use the mounting plate, which I don't think was covered in the video. You have to read and follow the instruction sheet that comes with the part. Therefore, my installation instructions are to a) watch the video, b) get together all the recommended tools described in the video, c) be prepared to use the mounting plate (which uses the same 1/4 nutdriver the video says is needed).

I did the complete valve replacement and had the washer back in place in just at 30 minutes, the tight closet quarters added a bit to this time I'm sure. Working in a basement or open utility room would have been a little easier and quicker. My shortfall though is, I should have done the hose connection check (turning the supply valves back on) before making the move back into the washer space, as once I performed what I thought was my last step, turning on the supply valves, I heard a water leak. This was resolved with another 10 minutes worth of moving the washer back out, disconnecting the hose, removing the rust debris which apparently caused the leak, reconnecting the hose, and this time, checking for leaks BEFORE moving the appliance back into place. I think the time estimate of 30 minutes is good for individuals with moderate experience in appliance repair, and probably good for the novice in conjunction with the video.

The installation of the Water Inlet Valve itself was a breeze. However, removing the back panel of the machine was what took so much time. It looks like a few screws and off it comes, right? NOT SO!! There are various clips and two brass hangers that are a real pain to get to. My advice is to contact Whirlpool and get instructions on removing the back panel before you start. PS: the machine works great! Thanks for the service.

The PartSelect DIY video made this repair so incredibly easy that even my not-super-handy husband and I were able to do it in about 15 minutes. (And I mostly watched because it doesn't require two people at all.) Every single step that was possibly needed was explained. We actually got the repair right on the first try -- no cussing, no bickering, nothing but a working washing machine in a quarter of an hour. In our book, DIY doesn't get any easier than this. We'll definitely be back for any parts our other old appliances need, and we won't be afraid to try future repairs ourselves. Saved a bundle!

On this particular washer you have to remove the top part of the machine. Where your controls are at, ie: water temp, water level, etc. It takes removing a few screws. Than you have to remove the back of the machine. Unhook the washer hoses going into your machine. This is where your part is on the inside of the back. Remove the back by a few sliding hooks. Unhook the electrial plugins going into the mixer (value inlet). There will be other plugins you have to unplug up around the water level, water temp areas (on top of the machine). Remove the old water inlet value, replace it with the new. Replace all plugin electrical parts and put the back back on. Put top back on, screw in the screws and try your new machine. NOTE: When it comes to these electrical plugins its not that hard. They are are different, they can only go in one way. My wires were all tied together so each plug was at that particular plugin length. Ex: The last plugin was the longest. Pretty easy to know where it go. The other ones were shorter. In other words it was pretty easy to know where they went after unplugging. So don't be scared to try this. There is one wire that is screwed into the metal for a ground wire. Just make sure you do get this back in for your safety. It's the only one that could be over looked. I am a female and I watched and helped my loving father take this machine apart. After this I put this part in myself. I was amazed that my machine was like new again. I agreed to tell my story because by others telling there story is what helped me. It saved me from buying a new machine. When I seen the stories on this particular problem I was ready to take the chance. I had already spent way more than that at the laundry mat. I removed the backing plate from the top, rear side of the machine & opened it up enough to open the side alittle to access the valve...Once I put the new valve in, I put the back panel back on & cleaned up!! Washer works great Again!!

After my son received a repair quote of $130, I decided to help him and do the repair myself. I have replaced inlet valves before and ordered the part ($30) from partselect.com. I received the part in less than 2 days via regular FedEx. I used the Partselect installation video (very accurate) to familiarize myself on accessing the defective part. The job took less than 30 minutes. Unfortunately, it also took me another 30 minutes to clean out all the dust bunnies residing under, in, and in back of the washer.

I looked at the PartSelect video first. It was a tremendous help. I removed the two screws on the right and left front corners of the console and tilted back the console. I disconnected a small electrical plug on the top panel and removed two large metal clips under the console fastening the back panel to the top of the machine. I then slid the one-piece front, side, and top panels away from the back to reveal the inside of the machine (tub, motor, etc.). I then removed the old water valve (combined hot and cold water) from the back panel and instaled the new one, using the mounting plate. I then replaced the cover and reversed the procedure above, finally reinstalling the two screws on the console. The new water valve works perfectly!
