Lid Switch Case was Broken and would not hold screws. Not draining or spinning.
I watched a youtube video made by the site on how to replace the lid switch assembly. It showed you exactly how to do this repair. Without watching the video, it would probably have stumped me. After watching the video a couple of times, it was really pretty easy to do. The timer on our washer also needed replacing. I followed the instructions by Joe from Covington, GA. That repair was really easy. Thanks, Joe, for the easy to follow, complete instructions.

Purchased and installed PS1485646 COUPLING, MOTOR (Direct Drive Coupling). We googled "Washing Machine making a grinding noise. Several people suggested coupling probably broken. We located some instructions online regarding dis-assembly, sure enough, the coupling was broken. We ordered the part from Partselect.com. It arrived in three days, replaced the broken coupler. washer shakes violently in spin cycle
It took a lot of surfing the internet to find good web sites for information. One was part select . I removed the cabinet from the washing machine per instructions. Then I replaced the suspension springs. That was easy. Took about 10 minutes. However, it didn't fix the problem. So I decided to replace all the suspension pads without a total tearing down the unit. It was almost impossible to put the new ones in because they don't press in easily. One other thing, there are plastic cups with pins in them that look like they are missing cotter pins. After hours of searching. I found partselect.com
THESE ARE THE SHIPPING PINS THAT KEPT THE MACHINE FROM MOVING AROUND DURING SHIPPING. THEY TOOK THE COTTER PINS OUT AFTER SHIPPING. THEY ARE NO LONGER NEEDED. My story ends here because my machine is still shakes violently. I have offered my washing machine for parts on our local freecycle website so as to keep it out of the landfill.

loud noise during spin cycle, then not spinning at all
Watching videos identified what parts to purchase.
Once identified - WATCH EACH PARTS VIDEO (again).
Lessons learned:
1) better to NOT tilt the washer
2) watch (more than once) and learn from the videos
3) must difficult step was loosening the tub retaining nut without having a spanner wrench (used a hammer and a short / wide blade screwdriver)
4) ended up being the tub support was not sitting properly in the suspension plate
5) cleaned and changed parts while apart
6) running as good as new
Thanks!!

The timer/wash select knob broke off in my hand
Went on line and did a search for Kenmore Washer Select Knobs through the Part Select website. The associated photo made it easy to match to my broken part. Ordered it and received it in 3 DAYS!!! Unwrapped the new part and screwed it on (the knob is threaded)- took longer to unwrap the part than to install it!!! I Love PartSelect.com!!! This was the 2nd time I have used them and will continue to rely on them whenever possible for my appliance repair needs!!!

direct drive washing machine not spinning
Direct drive, no belt. Motor sounds like it's spinning but the agitator is not. Bought the coupling (that goes between the motor and the transmission) and replaced it in less than 15 minutes. Two screws and two clips to open the cover. Two clips to move the water pump out of the way. Two screws and two clips to take out the motor. Replace the coupling and reverse the steps.

the washing machine would pump the water out, but the agitator would not spin, and it was making noise.
The video that was shown about how to perform the repair was spot on. I wasn't sure exactly what part I needed. I took the advise from you stating that these symptoms I described usually meant that the part I ordered was the correct repair In 65% of the cases. I was delighted to see that when I followed the instruction video, and the motor was removed, there was my coupling, In several pieces. At that point I knew that I ordered the correct parts.

washer quit spinning
Followed the video posted on the website. Everything went great - first repair attempt took about 45 minutes. Time consumed mostly due to the straps that hold the motor in place being very difficult to put back on and that the cabinet was a little difficult to replace due to the amount of rust around the bottom of it. Tried out the washer when done, and noticed a burning rubber smell. Took everything apart again, checked it, and everything seemed to be ok (made sure all four rubber feet were in place on the motor) so put it all back together again. Noticed the smell again so took it apart a third time, and when the motor felt pretty warm, decided to do an internet search for "burning rubber smell after replacing drive motor coupling." The answer popped right up - the replacement parts were not solid plastic like the original ones- they had metal on the inside of them, and needed to be tapped, a bit forcefully, with a hammer and socket until flush on the both the motor and transmission axles. Once the parts were flush, the straps that hold the motor in place snapped right on. Still a challenge with the rusted cabinet, but once all together again, worked perfect! Thanks to this site , I have fixed washers, dryers, and refrigerators and used them now nearly 20 years! I showed my daughter and granddaughter how to repair them and they don't hesitate to pitch in and help or handle the repairs on their own - again with much appreciation to this sitefor the accurate "how to" videos, the right parts, fast shipping, and great prices.

shaking on spin cycle
Removed the outside body of washer. Used 1/2 plywood between drum and wear pads to make space to pry out pads with screwdriver. Replaced suspension springs and tub spring (use waterproof grease on end of springs. Put washer back together and tested. Problem solved washer not walking all over floor anymore. Thanks for you help.

Kenmore Series 80 Lazy Spin
Remove metal cover; remove pump, remove motor, remove tub spin assembly; remove transmission. Remove clutch be removing retaining ring. Installation was reverse. No problems, part worked like champ.
Note: Called Sears to see if I could get the part locally. Turns our I had to call an 800 number. Lady said that the part was not carried and would have to be shipped from warehouse. Tried to sell me some discharge hoses. Then said the part would cost $65 before S&H. Told her I didn't want to spend that much, she asked how much I wanted to spend and seemed upset when I told her your price. She didn't comp it, just said that theirs was an official part from Sears, blah, blah, blah. Anyway, thanks for the great service!
