Agitator Not Working
I removed the center piece in the washer by pulling up on it, removed the retaining bolt and the agitator coupling.

Installation reverse of removal...no problems. The spline on the inside of the agitator coupling was worn out.

I never would have though about it until I searched the problem on line. I had already decided that I would have to buy a new washer (again)...I had a pressure switch problem about 6 months ago.

PartSelect is great...I ordered the parts for both problems from them and I have kept my old washer alive.

agitator couplier was stripped out on the shaft
I put my fingers under the agitator and pull up , this pulled it off the couplier, then I used a 11mm wrench to remove the bolt that holds the couplier in place and pulled the couplier off, the new couplier didnt arrive until after I went to work but my wife had it all back together when I got back home,I told her what to do and she said it only took about 10 mins. to get together, very easy.

Washer would not agitate
We removed the agitator then the bolt holding couplier. The inside of the plastic couplier had stripped after 5 years. We cleaned around the metal part of the agitator then installed the new GE plastic couplier, put in the bolt & replaced the agitator. The machine works better than ever.

The GE website said this part had to be replaced by a certified technician. The estimated service call alone was $80 & the part was not available from the GE website.

Agitator was no longer moving
I am a mother of 3 so a washing machine is vital. I called various appliance repair places and was quoted anywhere from $50 - $85 just to come and look at it. I did some online research and discovered that the part itself was less than $7. After paying for 2-day shipping, my total was under $20. I thought, what do I have to lose. I received the coupling kit and read the EASY instructions. I had already removed the old one so by the time I received the new one, it took me less than 10 minutes. WOW!! I now have a working washer!! .THINK AGAIN!!

Agitator is not turning
Agitator came off easily, but the agitator coupling was a little bit hard to remove. I have to yank it hard to be able to remove it. Putting the new part in is a bit hard too. I had to use a hammer to put it in. (with a piece of wood in between). Tried it with a small load and We're back in business. It was a pleasant experience to do business with you guys. Thanks for the quick turnaround.

Machine would not agitate. Everything else seemed to be working fine.
I removed the fabric softener cup and lifted up on the agitaotor till it slid off. I then removed the bolt that held the agitator coupling in place. I then worked the coupling off, wiggling it side to side until it slid off. Then I slid the new coupling on and replaced the bolt. Lined up the agitator and slid it back on. Then replaced the fabric softener cup. Job could not have been any easier.

Washing machine did not agitate
My husband remove the agitator and found that it was worn. I googled the problem and one of the websites that came up was PartSelect. My husband watched the easy to follow video and had me order the Agitator Coupling Kit. It arrived in just two days. It took him 15 minutes to install and I started washing immediately. It cost us $13.22 and saved us $800 to $1200 if a new washing machine would of had to be purchased. The washer is 15 years old and now with this repair will hopefully continue to wash for a few more years! Thank you PartSelect!

Washing Machine Would Not Agitate
I noticed that the agitator would spin without any resistance and must be stripped. I pulled the agitator straight up and it came right off. I then used an open end wrench to remove the bolt securing the agitator coupler to the metal spline. It came right off and was obviously stripped. Upon receiving the new coupler, slipped it straight on and tightened the coupler. Placed the agitator on the coupler and tested the washer, it worked. Very easy. My wife was ready to buy a new washing machine and I fixed it with a six dollar part.

Agitator not working.
Easy as it gets. I did this repair while playing Wii with my 8 year old and cooking supper... Still no more than a 10 minute fix.

Place a towel on one side of the washer so you won't scratch it.

Tie a loop of rope around the middle of the agitator between the upper and lower fins. Wrap the other end of the rope around a 2x4 ( I used a level), or anything similar and wind it around until the 2x4 is pulled down level with the top, keeping one end on the towel.

Yank the other end firmly a few times, and the agitator will seperate from the coupling. I had to snatch it pretty hard.

I removed the 7/16" bolt from the coupling, pulled it off the spline and replaced it with the new one.

The agitator slid right back into place with no trouble, and it is good as new.

What seemed like an expensive repair, or even the need for a new appliance was essentially removing one bolt and a replacing a $6 part.

Thanks!

The washer would fill with water, drain and spin but the agitator would not work. It would just wobble around.
To get the old agitator off I first used two pieces of laundry line rope to hook under the fins of the agitator on each side. Next I laid a 5 foot long 2 X 4 across the top and tied the ropes on. I filled the washer with 5 or 6 inches of extremely hot water to help loosen everything up and used leverage to pop the old agitator off. After that I used a socket set to remove the bolt from the top of the agitator coupling and took it out. I then put the new coupling in, replaced the bolt and lined up the agitator and slid it back on until it clicked and locked into place. The washer works great.

Agitator was not moving (agitating)
I was very disappointed that this washing machine was broken since it is the second GE washer I have had in this house and the home is only 11 yrs old. I went to the Parts Select website and used the repair information to diagnose the problem and order the part. The part was about $12 including shipping and arrived in a few days. Installation was quick and easy. Overall a very good experience since I was asssuming a broken transmission and new washer. Thanks Parts Select!

Agitator wouldn't spin on washing cycle
I took the plastic agitator out and checked the agitator coupling underneath. I unscrewed the agitator coupling and looked inside. It appeared that the grooves on the agitator coupling which attaches to the stem had become stripped. I ordered the $6.00 agitator coupling and screwed it back onto the stem. The plastic agitator slipped back onto the coupler and it worked perfectly after that.
