EWA5000D0WW General Electric Washer - Instructions

I removed the center piece in the washer by pulling up on it, removed the retaining bolt and the agitator coupling.

Installation reverse of removal...no problems. The spline on the inside of the agitator coupling was worn out.

I never would have though about it until I searched the problem on line. I had already decided that I would have to buy a new washer (again)...I had a pressure switch problem about 6 months ago.

PartSelect is great...I ordered the parts for both problems from them and I have kept my old washer alive.

Very easy with your great instructions in my email. took the wires off,took the hoses off,then the two bolts,put the new one on and reasembled the hoeses wires and bolts. put the front back on and that was that. Took old one out and put new one in.

My wife calls me and says that the washer is not draining water so I was like "great"...here goes more money. After I tried draining, cleaning, checking for leaks, I looked up possible causes and came across the water pump. I have bought from parts select and I love this website so I jumped on here, found the causes, diagram, installation videos, and cheap parts. Added to cart, paid, and was here in about two days. I disconnected the electricity, opened the front lid, took off the two hoses, unscrewed the pump, swapped in the new one and hooked it back up. The washer works like new, took me about 10 minutes. Unpluged from out let. the I just took the front off then I took the bolts out of the mounting bracket and the took the hoses off unpluged the plug. We pluged the plug in the new piece put the hoses back on rebolted the braket down put the front on and plug the eletric back in and did the load thank you soo much

removed back off washer, disconnected pump from washer tub, remove old pump in about 5 min, then installed new pump in less than 5 min. washer is working just fine wife thank me it was about 2 wks since the washer was down.

After discovering the agitator floating in the basket and being torn apart from the spin cycle, I finally narrowed the problem down to the coupling having stripped. Removing the old coupling from the agitator itself took a pretty hefty yank and a large pliers, but after that this went pretty easily.

The bolt that holds the coupling onto the spline, as it turns out, is too short. The new part corrects this design flaw and prevents the bolt from working its way out over time. I took the liberty of applying some loctite to the threads before sliding the new coupling on--this needed a wood block and hammer to fully seat-several years worth of grime on the spindle makes for a snug fit-then installed the new bolt. Agitator snaps on top, then the cap that had been shredded when it floated around snapped in.

Hardest part was getting the failed coupling out of the agitator--design of the unit is not easy to find and thus determine which parts to pull on. Other than that, 15 minutes and this one is done.

At first the knob seemed like it would not fit on, but after I sprayed it with WD-40 oil, it slipped with a gentle, steady push

First I removed the Front panel with a screwdriver, poped right out. Disconnected the two wires, removed two clamps from hoses on pump, then two screws at base. removed old pump, installed new pump ,tighten two screws, reinstalled hoses and clamps to pump, then put front panel back on, job completed in less than 1/2 hour. tested washer, pump worked and drained tub. easy fix saved cost to repairman $150 plus part cost.

The pump arrived and because I'd read some of the other stories here I wasn't too upset that it looked different.

I used pliers to squeeze the hose clamps and remove them from the old pump. The hex screws holding the old pump in were sort of rusty due to water, and were the majority of the miminal problem I had getting the old pump out. I put the new one in easily, fussed with the hoses a bit to make sure the clamps were in the right spot, plugged in the two leads, and ran a load.

The new pump was so quiet that I wasn't sure it was even working. Of course it was, and for $50 I gave myself a washing machine that works again. Thanks, guys.

The repair was done like the video suggested to do and in the order. And it worked well.In the step by step procedure.

Take off front. Take off top. Pull off agitator. Pull off agitator coupler, after removing bolt holding in place. Attempt to remove hub nut, no joy. Wound up cutting the nut with a Dremel tool and chiseling the nut off. Closer inspection revealed a bad transmission. Due to the cost of the transmission, we will continue to use the machine until it completely fails.
