i have replaced the string on the spool. it wont advance when bumping.
Have i done something wrong?
For model number BL110
Hello Paul, thank you for the great question. The issue is most likely with the spool line not being properly installed. We are providing you instructions that can help you install this part:
1. Unscrew the bump knob counter-clockwise. Remove the inner reel and spring.
2. Insert 10" of line through hole in top of the reel. Pull most of the line through hole until 3"-4" remains.
3. Bend short end and push it into the other hole. Pull tight.
4. Wind line tightly in the direction of the arrows. Split other end of line back 6" to 7".
5. Push them into holding slots.
6. Insert or slide lines into the eyelets in spool. Insert spring and reel into spool.
7. Pull lines firmly to release from holding slots.
8. Hold the inner reel in place.
9. Tighten the bump knob clock-wise.
We hope this information helps!

Part didn't have cut outside for killswitch or spark plug wire
Had to cut plastic housing in order to get the part to fit.
If the new housing had the cut outside this would have been a simple 30 min repair.
Spend $5 more and get the right part from MTD/Bolens website.
