Glass broke when I was cleaning it. Do not take out the shelf with the glass. Clean glass separately
I opened the large cardboard container the way it appeared to have been sealed. I knew i was dealing with glass. It was packed soooo great! After opening I Saw that the glass was tucked behind a separate piece of cardboard. Glad I had laid the package on the table to open. This made it easy to lift up out of the package. I went over the glass with a slightly damp cloth and dried. Peeled off the little stickers and laid it on top of the shelf supports and middle divider. It rested down right on top and eased into place. Wah-la!! All done! Thanks! Easiest repair I have ever had, and I am almost 70 with a lot of history in repairs!!

Lower freezer iced over compartment, upper refrigerator warming up.
Unplugged unit. Allowed to melt ice and drain overnight. Removed ice maker. Removed back panel to freezer/coil section. Cut wires to defrost thermostat and removed. Installed new defrost thermostat and wire nutted two wires. Reinstalled back panel and ice maker. Plugged unit back in. (I unplugged defrost heater and used ohm meter to verify that the defrost heater had continuity, and did not have to be replaced).

Broken Freezer Drawer Gear
Checked Video online. Had to remove the 2 snap on track/gear covers. Pry out the gear with screwdriver and the gear bearing unit. Align the flat side of the bearing unit and snap in. Position the cut teeth on the gear to match original and snap into the bearing. Insert the connecting rod into the long shaft gear and then push back into the short shaft gear. The video said to remove the drawer front but I did not and don't see that it necessary.

Refrigerator not cooling well, freezer working
long story, but good experience with Partselect.com...ordered a defrost heater as I had to replace same 15 years earlier, when part arrived I managed to test continuity of old heater in place and appeared fine (unless due to intermittent break that opened with heat) - so went ahead and order defrost thermostat and arraigned for return of heater (kept until testing after installation of the thermostat) - replacement of thermostat pretty easy - be sure to watch video of how to remove freezer rails for bottom freezer.
When I plugged back in the compressor wouldn't start, tried to and then shut off over and over. I had the dreaded thought that either I had put a leak in the coils or the compressor had failed due to overwork with failed defrost mode. Fingers crossed I ordered start capacitor and relay kit...sure enough when I removed the old capacitor and relay - I heard loose parts in the relay and pieces fell out when I shook it. installed new relay/capacitor and the fridge works like new - 21 year old Amana - very well engineered and easy to work on - great videos on disassembly re-assembly - when I replaced the heater 10 years ago I couldn't figure out how to remove side rails - no idea how I managed to pull the bottom of the cooling unit past the rails to remove and replace the heater.
I would recommend doing what I did, unless you are sure of the failure mode - which is to leave the back panel open for a day in the freezer after repair to be sure the defrost mode is working.

Difficulty removing old switch.
Everything went as planned except the cold temperature (freezer door switch located inside freezer) made deflection of the switch locking tab difficult to remove. Letting the switch warm up was not an option.

Freezer and refridgerator just stopped working.
The Condenser Fan Motor was already removed due to searching for the problem. The new fan motor looked different from the original but I felt very comfortable that Part Select had sent me the new part showing original part number changing numbers over the years. Simply placed the fan blades onto the new motor lined up 2 of the holes placed screws and tightened then plugged the wire ribbon into the Condensor Fan Motor, plugged in the Refridgerator and it worked beautifully.

The instruction video on the Part Select Web Site made it so incredibly easy to install. Installation took under 3 minutes!
