GRS20HRHD4 Gibson Refrigerator - Instructions

Removed front low grill, removed the two screws that hold the element in place. I then pulled the element out about 3 inches and disconnected the wires. Reversed process to install new timer.

We replace the end pieces to hook the holder back on the door.

removed screws with from the back panel of the freezer; located defrost thermostat attached to coil with a metal clip; unplugged thermostat and replaced with the new one. Put every thing back together and it works perfectly.

After testing and eliminating the temperature control and the timer as the problem, I turned to the thermostat. I had to wait for the ice buildup to thaw and then could remove the rear freezer panel (this was the 3rd time: first, to discover the ice buildup causing the problem, second when it came back after a complete thaw and test the thermostat, and this time to put the Partselect thermostat back in). My thermostat was visibly damaged from water melting into ice and expanding the casing and eventually breaking one of the connections. I connected the thermostat connection wires (not recommended) to get by while ordering the part, which shipped faster than local repair places could get it from their warehouses, and at a fraction of the cost. I'm really impressed with partselect's fast service and all the knowledgable customers who have explained how they installed them. I now have an intimate knowledge of how my fridge works and saved hundreds in repair, or twice that in replacement. Thanks!

took 4 screws out of the discharge vent on top of the refrigerator section and unpluged the wiring harness and put the section on the counter and unscrewed the timer and put the new one in and reinstalled the assembly and plugged the Jack and put the 4 screws back in, and rotated the timer and put it on defrost removed the back and check the heaters and drain .

My first option was to replace the defrost timer.
After still getting ice and frost buildup in freezer I decided to replace the defrost thermostat.
Remove all shelves. Losen icemaker if applicable. Remove light cover and bulb. Remove all screws securing rear vertical cover. Carefully move back panel, disconnect icemaker and bulb assembly. carefully remove styrofoam cover at upper left and remove defrost thermostat. I tested the thermostat and found it was defective. It would not close circuit after being placed in a working freezer. Reverse procedure to replace thermostat.
This solved the problem

The rod, that looks a like a oven heater element, had burnt into and was not defrosting the coolant coils in the freezer was freezing up. I took the back panel off from inside the freezer and let it unthraw. The freezer coils were held into a frame with only two screws which I took out. I unplugged the heater element and easily pulled the coils out as little as possible, taking care not to break the copper rods with the freon inside them. On each side of the coils I had to take off a silver aluminum strip that held the element close to the coils so I could get it away from the coils so I could pull the heater rod straight down. I then fished the new piece up through the coils,which is a little tricky because of not room to move,then put the strips back, pushed the coils back into place and attached the screws and hooked the heater element back. Screwed the back panel on and it worked fine. This was my first fridge repair.

Thermostat-Thawed freezer, took out drawers and loosened drawer track(back screw)to help remove back panel. Removed five screws from back panel with nut driver and slide panel up and out. Removed thermostat from coils. Two wire connectors pulled apart. Spring loaded connection on coil pulled off. Placed new part from partselect.(reversing sequence) Timer-Took two screws out from behind kickplate at bottom left of freezer. Pulled connector thermostat out of connector. Replaced with new timer. Turned plastic dial on timer until it clicked. Frig turned on, one week ago. Everything appears to be fine.If it doesn't freeze up in the next two weeks, I will start feeling real good.

I followed the You-Tube instructions, removed the ice from the compressor and replaced the thermostat with the part I received from Part Select. What I took out was a part that was very much inferior to the replacement part. The repair saved me a lot of money for a new freezer and it was not difficult to do following the video. Now the freezer runs better and quieter than ever. Thank you Parts Select.

Unplug freezer let stand all night to defrost. Remove the tray cover which is located on the upper back area inside the freezer.( 3 twist fittings remove it ). Remove the upper stainless steel panel which is secured with 6 screws. This will drop down exposing the condenser. Note all the wires and fan will stay attached to the stainless steel panel, this panel will drop down no need to unplug anything. On the left upper side next to the condenser you will see the thermostat. Two color coded wires. Remove the thermostat and install the new one at the same location.

Replace thermostat and show and tell made it easy.

Make sure the drawer is very clean and there is no residue at the base of the drawer. If needed put very hot water in the drawer to disolve any gunk. Then pry the lip on the reverse side of the drawer with a screw driver. then the front will slide up and come off easily. If the drawer has any gunk in it, the front will not come off.

1st. replaced the defrost thermostat pn 5303918214 did not fix it next replaced the defrost timmer pn 215846602 that did not fix it,next replaced the defrost heater pn 5303918247 still did not fix it,has the same problem as when I started I don't know what to do next guess will call for a service tech to come out,or get a new refridgerator. Looks like I wasted my money on these parts. Refridgerators are not as easy to fix as yall make them out to be. I have to say all the parts were easy to install and your instructions and videos were great, they just did not fix my refrigerator Thanks Tom

The instructions given to me by part Select were very good.I replaced the Timer- checked the heater with oham meter it was good- checked the door weather striping it was good and replaced the thermostat with new .So at this point I may need to call a professional unless some one has another solution.
